This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Who still has plasma TV's?
-
I have had a 50" Panasonic Vieira plasma for about 10 years and there is no sign of screen burn at all.

Edited by MthwStwrt: 1/28/2015 11:27:34 PMYep, mines got major burn in now, mine a VT60 - last panasonic plasmas made. Silly bungie and the little things they forget
-
I have had the same plasma screen since 2008 and it has thousands of gaming hours, maybe 10's of thousands and any image that has ever burned on has faded and gone away. The picture is still clearer than any of my friends new leds and the refresh rate is insane.

Edited by ThE lBiZzNeSs: 1/28/2015 11:19:39 PMPlasma TVs are known for having this "burn in" problem. Thats why you dont play games on them. Blame Destiny right?
-
Never use plasma for gaming.
-
Correction: Playing any video game on a cheap tv can ruin your tv. Other things that can ruin your cheap tv: Watching sports. (the score in the corner can burn in.) Watching network tv. They like to put their logo in the corner. Moral of the story. Your tv is the problem, not Destiny. Maybe use this as an excuse to get a decent tv. I suggest doing a little research this time.

Edited by Freeze1119: 1/28/2015 11:12:09 PMThey tell you this when you buy a plasma TV dude. I do love how people blame everything including their stupidity on this game tho
-
Shouldn't be permanent, had that happen with Gran turismo dashboard on mine. download a special color slideshow for your console and run it for a day or so ( basically a bunch of full screen color jpg's that cycle ). Will eventually go away.
-
Edited by Rimfed: 1/28/2015 11:10:16 PMThis happens with a lot of games not just destiny. Take a 10 minute break now and then lol

Who still uses plasma?
-
Anyone remember radar burn from halo?
-
Newer plasma has a burn safe function the images shift slightly often I have never had a issue. And I have played a game all day before.
-
You shouldn't be using a plasma.. Outdated.

Edited by Doc SoCal: 1/28/2015 10:39:40 PMHold it over your head with he screen pointed down and shake it like an Etch-a-sketch and it will take those marks right off.... Plasma Burn in is not a Destiny specific issue, you just play it too much on a display that was not designed for long term static image display. Also, you will lose your love for your plasma once you go LED and see that first full months power bill reduction. In short... You get what you pay for.

Plasmas are still the best TVs for picture accuracy, hands down. Panasonic ST50 is one of the best around (I have the Kuro 151 myself) and Im surprised it would burn in like that. Ive been playing Destiny exclusively on my Kuro since day one and have had no issues.
-
Who the hell still plays on a 1999 made TV. Give me a break. Plasma TVs are the worst pieces of crap u can get. I think its time for a upgrade my friend. Ebay,Craigslist, amazon. If money is the issue then try those options
-
Sounds like a YOU problem. Plasma TVs are not the best for gaming and thats the bottom line. Plasmas are only good for watching movies/tv shows. I play on a 1080P 47" LG LED TV and I will continue to game on LEDs until I hang my controllers up for good.
-
Thety do not have to add the option at all, just use a different tv.. plain and simple. they do not have to make their game playable on all tv's ever. they do not have to do what other games do just to make you happy. and plasma is not the best you can buy there are many lcd tv's that have far better picture than plasma tv's...and for lag it is called putting the tv on game mode which most if not all modernd lcd's have...which disables all the post processing that causes the lag.
-
Stop buying ghetto plasma tvs it's crazy hard to get a burn in on any newer plasma tv that isn't garbage
-
I have 2 plasmas, and plenty of games do this. If you have the option, try using the burn protection option in your settings. It will do a 5-10 second wipe across the screen and should help remove that. Mine craft has been the worst game I have played that does it. But I have played destiny for 24-30 hours straight sometimes with no permanent burn. And I play every day. So.
-
Panasonic.... There's your problem right there.
-
Dude, just buy a better TV, preferably not a plasma...
Hint: get a 4K TV.
-
Just run static on it for like 15 min after a gaming session. It'll stay clear that way
-
All TVs will do this. It's a burn in the screen itself. My LCD at other house has cod bo2 burned into it. When I look hard I can see a vsat in the bottom corner. Maybe you can call yourself a gamer now since you play so much destiny. Or buy a monitor. I have no issues on my benq
-
It's a plasma dude. Plasma's don't last long at all. You need an LED tv.
