*CAUTION* Destiny Can Ruin Your Plasma TV!

This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch. The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision. Here is an example of my tv with a white background And here is one with a yellow background I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable. Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game. *edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro. *TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in. *EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Why do you even own a plasma tv? I never bought one because they are trash and the screens burn just like the above picture. Dump it, buy an LED, learn how to play better so your super isn't always being wasted.

Has anyone had success with getting the burn to go away entirely? I stopped playing destiny about three weeks ago and I can say that the gun and the line above it are the only things still obvious to me. And even then it's only noticed during backgrounds with eggshell colored whites (ice) or very fast moving camera movement (like tracking a golf ball along its desent). So it has gotten better. I have run disney wow pixel flipper and have run a setting configuration which surprised me that I was running the contrast two high. I was running 80. Disc said I should run 50 along with some subtle brightness, tint, and color adjustments. But I always ran the pixel orbiter. Let me know if you have got the burn to go away entirely and what steps you took. Thanks. Panny vt60.

    • I have a 2010 LG 60" plasma, Model PZ950. After turning off my PS4 I've never had any visual traces on the screen. Seems your TV (or that particular model) has a flaw or defect.

      • Actually, you're not supposed to play any video game on a plasma screen, just like a projector screen the stuff that is always on, radar, weapons, ect, will burn into it. One more reason they are cheaper. Please everyone educate yourself on the products you buy, before you get them. A lot of people say this & this, I thought, was a known fact. Plasmas & projector screen should not be used for video games

      • Started a new topic: Bungie please update plasma owners on a fix for the plasma destroying HUD

      • Well it's kinda your fault for owning a plasma tv
Burn-in, or image retention, is the result of a damaged pixel, whose phosphors have been prematurely aged and therefore glow less intensely than those of surrounding pixels. The reason is that the damaged pixel has developed a "memory" of the color information that was repeatedly fed to it, causing it to glow in a static manner for a sustained period of time. This phosphor color information can actually become seared or etched into the plasma-screen glass, and in some rare cases it can become permanent. Once these phosphors are damaged, they cannot produce the same levels of light output as the other phosphors around them do. But pixels do not suffer burn-in singly. Burn-in occurs in the shape of a static image that linger on TV screens -- things like network logos, computer icons, Internet browser frames, etc.
I have the same TV, and I adjust the screen bounds once or twice per session. This moves the static HUD elements. And I run the TV's wipe function overnight once in a while. These simple steps avoid the burn-in problem. And over time it may perhaps improve your TV as well. EDIT: And I enabled the pixel orbiter burn-in protection, but I think it defaults to ON. I had it OFF since it makes the text somewhat fuzzy when I use the TV for my HTPC with Windows 7. When used as a computer display, I have to take another series of steps to avoid burn-in: Change the desktop background frequently (automatic Win7 function). Don't leave icons on desktop, and hide the taskbar automatically.

        • Ya I had a western tv or it had a w on it and the old xbox360 dashboard was engraved in it but it did fade and come back but I now have a 2012 or 13 sony smart tv it has led I suppose. I don't think they make plasma Tv's anymore or some company's do. But I see why it would leave it like that but if ur problem is fixed watch a movie or something a day to let the screen get different colors and other things so it doesn't show the same symbols on the screen but I'm sorry for u.

I haven't had a problem with mine. I just run my anti-image retention stuff after I play Destiny (or any game) every time and have never had a problem with image retention after having my TV for three years.

            • I own a larger version of your same model. I play Destiny pretty often and no burn in. Do you have pixel orbiter enabled? Have you tried the screen wipe for a hour? Maybe you just got a faulty TV. To all the folks giving him grief for getting a plasma, they have advantages and disadvantages: Burn in is non-existent for newer plasmas, black levels are amazing and they tend to be 240hz standard. But, they are heavy, much thicker than lcd/led and are being phased out which probably means they'll become harder to repair as parts become slimmer.

              • You do realize Plasma Tvs are not made anymore because they were an awful idea. cool at first yes, but very inefficient and outdated quickly. It's 2015 man atleast get yourself an LED, get your money's worth and enjoy even 720p letting it feel like it's 1080p
