No, really, hear me out. I'm not complaining here I'm trying to learn -- by asking what's up. I know everyone is super busy doing the hard mode raid right now, but throw a guardian a bone and give me some advice ;)
So I only recently really hit 31 (not a Christmas noob... but not far off (say ~2 months before))
I also am a Husband, Dad, and employee. So my time is pretty limited, and it's not scheduled (so I can't promise to specifically be on from 8-9pm every single day, or every Friday, etc) I do have 2 alts both at 30... (working on them, again time.) Only this l week I was able to run the NightFall 3 times which I was pretty proud of.
So when I get a few hours to rub together to try and tackle something more challenging (a raid for example) I'm relying on random pickup groups. Also because of this I don't know the raids like clockwork -- I need some instruction. I'll shoot whatever you want with my 331 jellyhorn when someone yells out "fire now" until I'm out of heavy synth... But I've never tried being sword bearer for example. Someone has to lead. (also making the problem of not knowing HOW worse is that until recently everyone wanted to cheese everything, which doesn't help a filthy casual like me learn but even then I still had bad luck with finding a group capable of cheesing and completing the entire raid, which was always puzzling to me...) I have had just TERRIBLE luck.
Often I'm listening to people badmouthing their previous team. Talking about how everyone else did things wrong. People talking about how easy it is, how they can down Crota in 10 minutes, or do the whole raid in 30 minutes with "their group" or whatever.
Then I go where I'm told, do what I'm told, shoot what I'm told. At least I try to. Wipe. Wipe. Wipe. Wipe. 1 person leaves. Wipe. Wipe. 3 more leave. Orbit.
So now... by this point... that was the end of my couple hours I found to rub together to try and get this done. Maybe try again next week. I can't seem to actually beat a raid with anyone
(for those who like checking the cards and vetting peoples accounts I have technically beaten the raid by virtue of being on a team who cheeses the hell out of everything 3 (i think) weeks ago. Most of my time was spent twiddling my thumbs while people stripped naked and danced for the glory of the moon in the woods at midnight. (or at least may as well have for as much as it "taught me" anything about how to complete the raid now that the cheeses are mostly fixed) so I got my light of the abyss and a couple pieces of raid gear (but not enough to pop 32) and the rest of my shards and energy were from cheesing the first chest a couple of weeks with all 3 characters...)
So then... What am I doing wrong? I assume it has to be me because I seem to be the common denominator, If everyone else is telling the truth about how easy it is, and how they can do it no problem. I'm ready to admit it if I'm just plain bad, but along with telling me that I'm bad tell me how to get good, make the flaming a constructive one and I'll be happy. What advice do y'all have?
Gimme a minute to go get my flame retardant suite on and then let me have it!

I'm in the same boat as you. I play a little more than you, but my time when I am playing is valuable to me. My first tip...avoid squeakers. Sorry kids... 90 percent of you are horrible. The other 10 percent are better at video games than I'll ever be. If I hear one in a group... I usually just leave right away. Secondly, its pretty easy to tell if a team has it or not early on. I usually give a team 4 or 5 tries before I make a decision. I'll go longer If I think it's there. Finally... I try to be picky on destiny lfg. I'll look for almost full groups...or groups with multiple 32s...or you get real lucky get in on a clan run. Joining a clan isn't really an option for you. It's not for me. My wife freaks out if I have scheduled game time. Plus.. As you know.. Kids are quite unpredictable. Good luck man. I feel your pain.
