No, really, hear me out. I'm not complaining here I'm trying to learn -- by asking what's up. I know everyone is super busy doing the hard mode raid right now, but throw a guardian a bone and give me some advice ;)
So I only recently really hit 31 (not a Christmas noob... but not far off (say ~2 months before))
I also am a Husband, Dad, and employee. So my time is pretty limited, and it's not scheduled (so I can't promise to specifically be on from 8-9pm every single day, or every Friday, etc) I do have 2 alts both at 30... (working on them, again time.) Only this l week I was able to run the NightFall 3 times which I was pretty proud of.
So when I get a few hours to rub together to try and tackle something more challenging (a raid for example) I'm relying on random pickup groups. Also because of this I don't know the raids like clockwork -- I need some instruction. I'll shoot whatever you want with my 331 jellyhorn when someone yells out "fire now" until I'm out of heavy synth... But I've never tried being sword bearer for example. Someone has to lead. (also making the problem of not knowing HOW worse is that until recently everyone wanted to cheese everything, which doesn't help a filthy casual like me learn but even then I still had bad luck with finding a group capable of cheesing and completing the entire raid, which was always puzzling to me...) I have had just TERRIBLE luck.
Often I'm listening to people badmouthing their previous team. Talking about how everyone else did things wrong. People talking about how easy it is, how they can down Crota in 10 minutes, or do the whole raid in 30 minutes with "their group" or whatever.
Then I go where I'm told, do what I'm told, shoot what I'm told. At least I try to. Wipe. Wipe. Wipe. Wipe. 1 person leaves. Wipe. Wipe. 3 more leave. Orbit.
So now... by this point... that was the end of my couple hours I found to rub together to try and get this done. Maybe try again next week. I can't seem to actually beat a raid with anyone
(for those who like checking the cards and vetting peoples accounts I have technically beaten the raid by virtue of being on a team who cheeses the hell out of everything 3 (i think) weeks ago. Most of my time was spent twiddling my thumbs while people stripped naked and danced for the glory of the moon in the woods at midnight. (or at least may as well have for as much as it "taught me" anything about how to complete the raid now that the cheeses are mostly fixed) so I got my light of the abyss and a couple pieces of raid gear (but not enough to pop 32) and the rest of my shards and energy were from cheesing the first chest a couple of weeks with all 3 characters...)
So then... What am I doing wrong? I assume it has to be me because I seem to be the common denominator, If everyone else is telling the truth about how easy it is, and how they can do it no problem. I'm ready to admit it if I'm just plain bad, but along with telling me that I'm bad tell me how to get good, make the flaming a constructive one and I'll be happy. What advice do y'all have?
Gimme a minute to go get my flame retardant suite on and then let me have it!

The reason you are having trouble is because people really are bad. on normal stay on the left side. And ffs someone grab the chalice. Have 1 person ALWAYS shooting boomers. make sure this person is 31+. that guy does not: 1) shoot crota, ever 2) shoot thrall 3) shoot sword bearer 4) look anywhere else but the boomer tower. If that wasn't clear, DON'T DO ANYTHIGN ELSE EXCEPT KILL BOOMER KNIGHTS. Everyone else should be jumping on that sword bearer. He shouldn't have seconds to live. he should be DEAD when you see him. And don't use primary ammo. Shoot him with your heavy and special ffs. synths are in the game for a reason you cheap mofo. Only down crota when the sword guy is in position. and ffs call out when crota is almost down. You want as much time for the sword guy to damage him as possible. And make sure you down him TWICE every time you get a sword. for the second time you MUST WAIT for him to stop glowing orange or all shots you put out will be immune. If crota runs to the right before you get a second shot at him, then your team was too slow. Too slow probably because you guys were picking your own ass holes instead of killing the sword bearer. In anycase it's not the end of the world if you only get him once per rotation, but the fight will then drag on and you might have to worry about enrage. When crota runs right wait until he is middle again to kill the sword bearer. then repeat the steps above. Once you get him twice again, everyone run to the center hallway under the crystal IMMEDIATELY. Don't wait or shoot stuff, RUN. Crota will eventually run left and has a good chance of killing you if you're still there. From the hallway wait and shoot ogres when they appear. When they are down WAIT FOR CROTA TO MOVE MIDDLE before you go back to your position left side. On your way back watch for thralls and exploders. That guy on boomer duty is still doing that right? because he should be. From here on out the fight repeats like that for a total of 3 rotations. if you don't have crota down he will enrage after that. If crota enrages it is still possible to down him, but it will be a bit trickier. If crota won't go down in the next sword by this point, you should probably just wipe. If he will go down, have 1 person focus on killing the sword bearer while everyone else hits the oversoul. Once hes down the sword guy gets into position. you MUST WAIT to take down crotas shield until right after an oversoul goes down or you might not have enough time to take down crota and oversoul at the same time. that's it. normal crota is even easier than atheon. the reason wipes happen is because people are too damn slow to react to whats going on. kill that damn sword bearer quickly, someone should always be focusing on boomers, and the sword guy should know to gtfo when crota stands back up. no one should be dying. The chalice should be passed around like a cheap hooker. The sword guy also shouldn't take the chalice with him since it doesn't serve much purpose. he shouldn't be getting hit by boomers, and if crota hits him hes dead anyway.

Because ur a noob that doesn't deserve that level the question u should be asking is why do other people suck at beating Crota
-
Mate i been thinkin the same thing

You can join The IronBlood Guardians,we are made up of all types of eclectic gamers(squeakers included) and we always do raids, strikes, patrol etc. I'm always willing to help people get gear Xbox 360 if you want to add me GT AYESOSA
-
Add "Octish" I'll help you beat it.
-
Do you want to join my team
-
Look in to joining dads of destiny. Lots of great guys who will run raids, nightfalls, weekly and so on. Everyone is just there to have fun and not take it, or themselves to seriously. You'll find a good group or teammates to run with in no time. And they'll coach you not carry you.
-
I'll run Crota with you. Gamer tag is same as my name. Send a message n inv n I'll help us out!
-
I'm in the same boat as you. I play a little more than you, but my time when I am playing is valuable to me. My first tip...avoid squeakers. Sorry kids... 90 percent of you are horrible. The other 10 percent are better at video games than I'll ever be. If I hear one in a group... I usually just leave right away. Secondly, its pretty easy to tell if a team has it or not early on. I usually give a team 4 or 5 tries before I make a decision. I'll go longer If I think it's there. Finally... I try to be picky on destiny lfg. I'll look for almost full groups...or groups with multiple 32s...or you get real lucky get in on a clan run. Joining a clan isn't really an option for you. It's not for me. My wife freaks out if I have scheduled game time. Plus.. As you know.. Kids are quite unpredictable. Good luck man. I feel your pain.

You gotta rub the lotion on crota's skin...or else he gets the hose again

Edited by GunZnGorE: 1/22/2015 2:39:55 AMI just did it on hard. Fortunately I have a great raid team who I regularly raid with. Managed to do hard in a little over an hour. Your problem isn't you, it's the guys you raid with. My advice is try to find a clan (several on recruitment page) from here try to find regular players. People who you can hit the raids with regularly. If there's any decent xbone players here, maybe they can invite you. Good luck mate.

I just sympathized so hard there, that I think Hollywood sensed it- and are writing the script for Good Luck Chuck 2
-
I am in the same boat and understand exactly how you feel. I have managed to find a few good groups and some of them invite me back when they are doing raids. Its just been trial and error and slowly building a roster of good gamers. I still need to make it through a full CE run which will happen soon I am sure.

Dude it's crota your fine

Edited by F1nner: 1/22/2015 1:08:10 AMWhat console...I just saw xbone...I woulda raided with you I'm on ps4...Watch YouTube videos...good luck

I know how you feel. I'm a bit different. I missed vog completely, I was quite ill for a while and couldn't talk or play for long periods. I've managed to get into a Team once, went strait through and it was great but I'm struggling to find a group that'll take someone inexperienced anymore. Everyone had moved on or expects you to know exactly what to do! I'm really lucky that I've found a clan now. I'd really recommend finding a good one, with similar ways of playing as yourself. I've done ce about three times now, in bits. Currently my problem is timing, as they are mainly American and I'm uk. For a really good guide I'd recommend searching for kingothalion's raid clinic on YouTube. Three destiny steamers ran the raid with three viewers who'd either never done it or never done it without cheese. It's the entire raid in one video so you get a good feel for how each part goes. I'm hoping I get to do the raid again this week. I did get an invite earlier so I grabbed my gear and jumped into..... Hard mode vog, for some reason they decided to do that instead of ce so I had to leave!

My advice to you is the same I give out each time I read a post like this. Given the time you've put into this game I would hope you've been building a friendslist of like minded and scheduled players. If not, then there's that. Next, if you can, join a clan of like minded and scheduled players. I offer an open invite to the clan I'm in. Each person I've played with is active on the biards, helpful in the game and just all around fun people. Feel free to message me if you're on the xb one. GT Gecko 77 Clan Fenrir Initiative

You need more experience, your joining groups made of cheese , by wiping and not progressing through the oversoul then the group is crap and you should back out and find another , basically don't waste your time on bad groups , for one it helps to call out everything boomers boomers boomers , middle middle middle , get crota get crota crota crota , let's get sword bearer down guys , those are what I use , without a good leader your destined to wipe that ass till it bleeds
-
Of your team doesn't know what they're doing you're not gonna have a good time
-
are you on 360 or xbox one? if you're on 360 i would be more than happy to take you through anything in this game, with the exception of hard crota. i will actually explain it all thoroughly and show you the absolute easiest way to do each portion of the raid, minus any cheesing whatsoever. crota's raid that is, I only go into the vault to try to get that jelly you have. as soon as i have it i'm never going in there again.

Edited by Archon of Aegis: 1/21/2015 11:56:53 PMOverall yes, Crota is pretty easy, the issue is that you generally need everything to go off without a hitch and that's difficult. I finished up the end fight today with a really good group and it still took us an hour because you have to get the sword hit timing just right. I've noticed with raid this time around people are just more impatient, its the most difficult thing in the game, it's supposed to be challenging for people

I feel you buddy

Edited by chadesh: 1/21/2015 11:50:43 PMAs long as everyone is on the same page(knows what to do) and communicates it is relatively easy. I did VOG and our biggest problem was not killing oracles fast enough or having issues with portal glitches or just glitches in general. I watched one person take crota down to a sliver of health by himself. Never really done CE completely have been invited to the last fight once.
