Xur sold the IB today and it has opened my eyes to something very strange and more that a little terrifying. The forums blew up with people talking about "earning" theirs, or "working hard" for that gun.
When did video games have anything to do with work? When did people start to correlate playing as work? I go to work everyday. In no world would I consider playing VoG work. Think about it.
I bought the IB when I payed $60.00 for this game. So I truly worked for it as many of you did.
This has just opened my eyes to how lazy our generation has become. If we truly had an appreciation for hard work we wouldn't be so quick to apply that term to a raid on a game.
That's it. Had to rant.
Edit 1: Thank you for those that agree with me. For you who don't I have a challenge. Go find the hardest working man in your area. Your mom will know who he is if you need to ask someone. Work along side him for 1 day. Come back and see if you still have the same opinion.
Edit 2: I really cannot believe that this had so many replies. This community isn't as bad as it can look at times.

This is so damn true. There are so many kids complaining about "earning" stuff. You're pressing buttons, assholes.
-
-
Bump. Well thought.

Not sure how new to the community you are, but this earned vs. "Xur'ned argument has been around for a long time and just was re-ignited by him selling Ice Breaker again. Some people are just idiots and believe that they "earned" weapons through RNG.
-
Considering the amount of hours of overtime I turned down to play destiny, my Ice Break is worth about $2,000... 😵 Haha
-
Well, I do agree with you except on one point. I don't think laziness has anything to do with the whole debate about "earning" rewards. As a work force, we're more productive than in previous times because we have no choice to be. That said, I think it has more to do with how selfish, and inconsiderate some people have become. I'm happy to see people running around using the IB for the first time. They're probably enjoying an exotic they may have coveted. Being upset because a weapon you got as a lucky drop is being sold by a special vendor shows very terrible character traits. These people make themselves look selfish, inconsiderate, and entitled to something. These are the people that kind of ruin coop and pvp because they tend to complain the most from what I've seen on this forum and other forums with multiplayer (ME3, Dark souls, etc.). It's very sad...
-
In my case my career pays me for doing something which is so easy that I wouldn't even call it work. More like hanging out with friends and getting paid a ton to do it. Destiny on the other hand sometimes feels like work because I'm doing the same tedious thing over and over again like bounties or multiple wipes in a raid with randoms.
-
I don't get why people complain lol I would really prefer to have 2 other randoms have an IB during a ROC strike or nightfall to take down the boss faster
-
Exactly everyone owns every gun its just not in their armory yet they prolly left it in one of those chest some where
-
I think these guys have it bass ackwards. I earned strange coins, coins bought new ib, nobody just gave it to me. Jeez.

More wifi bullshit, Some days i wish I had better wifi :/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pwKmq9FWhgw

Xurners vs earners is an age old rant that has been here since launch.
-
Im with you on the "earners" rant. You dont earn exotics in this game because there are no set peramiters on obtaining them outside of exotic bounties. You run strikes/raid for the other rewards (raid gear/engrams/strange coins, ect), if you are randomly rewarded an exotic then its a bonus. I will concede that when you are at the reward screen and that golden item pops up it pumps you up a bit
-
Totally agree, the only thing thing we earned is the right to play the game we bought. The rest is rng and luck whether it was a drop, zur or reward.
-
I love the point you want to make, but then you can say the same kind of thing about any desk jockey, that they aren't working...there is a difference between work and a job...and work isn't always 100% physical grueling work can be mental as well... So while video games are by no means labor intensive work, they can be mentally taxing work
-
Very good post indeed sir!

Edited by SweetZombieJesus: 1/17/2015 8:54:02 PMThis. Is. Awesome. I'm always amazed by the amount of individuals ranting about work and earn in this forum. Or... Talking about how fun doesn't equal the cost or the time put into game. Glad to see you posted this...

Edited by Ainz Ooal Kaza: 1/17/2015 9:08:29 PMBut you don't understand, it's so hard, you gotta turn on the console and the tv, then start the game (which requires a complicated button press) select your character, which is mentally taxing. Then find a group to run the raid, nightfall with and that is true work, sending and accepting invites, sifting through the noob request because of elitist standards. Then you have to actually go through the mission, that involves even more complex button pushing and thumbstick movement. This craps is really hard... After all that hard work you might get an icebreaker drop if rng blesses you with one, if you get it then you've EARNED it, if not you're just a scrub that gets handed everything because you whine to Bungie...
-
You weren't ranting, to many games have put that earned idea in everyones head. Glad to hear some players arent crazy. :-)
-
Hmm, never thought of it that way....
-
I enjoyed reading your post. I wholeheartedly approve.

I earned it 2 weeks ago from the raid and xur sells it this weekend. That's bullshit. Now every noob can have it. In my opinion the IB is one of the best gun in the game and I think it s ok to say "you have to work for it". I am working 9.30 hours a day and I also work hard for Destiny so I earned the IB .
-
100% Agree. I've posted on a rant about earning a game gun, this game is constantly evolving which means IB is yesterday's gun. Who cares what Xur sells? I don't.
-
Exactly, people take this game wayyy too seriously.
