Hello fellow Guardians,
Noticed a few people on my friend's list creating new chars recently, and thought I'll share my experience with levelling up by myself since I know most of you would like to level them up as quick as possible. (not sure if this topic has been covered already)
I've deleted chars and have gotten them to level 20 within 6.5hrs (which I think by no means is the quickest time) but thought I'll let you guys know what I've been doing.
Stage 1: Level 1-8 (~1.5 hours)
Normally I'll just try and do all the missions as quick as possible by running past all the enemies apart from the ones that I have to kill to get past to the next stage or complete the missions. The earth missions are pretty simple and you shouldn't need to worry about levelling up as the xp you earn from completing missions should be sufficient to get u to the required level to take on the next mission. The postmaster should give you the Cosmodrome patrol bounty after you complete around the 5th mission on earth. Normally I'll complete this bounty after I've finished all the missions on Earth. After doing this, you should be around level 6 and ready to start the Moon missions. Moon missions are pretty simple as well and you shouldn't have much trouble tea bagging the wizards and knights. Forgot after which mission but the postmaster should give you the Collect Moon Shards bounty. Keep an eye out for this one and complete it while you're running the missions to make use of your time. After completing all the moon missions, you should hit level 8.
Stage 2: Level 9-15 (~2hours) [possibly the stage I hate most]
I've tried hitting the Venus missions right after I've completed the moon missions without trying to level up further but found that I had to wipe a few times (probably because I'm not as skilled of a player) to complete them and thought it was not efficient enough. So I've worked out a good way to prepare myself and for the rest of the missions for the Venus and Mars which is to complete all the bounties available to you. Normally I'll hit the crucible right after the moon missions and try to complete all 3 crucible bounties as quick as possible. I don't normally play the objective to win when I try and complete these bounties, I just try and play for the bounties, I couldn't care less about my K/D. After you complete all the crucible bounties, you should be around level 12-13. After that I'll try and complete the remaining vanguard bounties (apart from Venus and Mars related) that's available apart from the Phogoth bounty given to you by the postmaster. I normally complete all the strike bounties after I've completed all the Mars missions. Completing the vanguard bounties should get u up to 14-15, if it doesn't maybe hit the crucible again to gain xp or do public events. Normally I will not decode any engrams I get from this stage until I reach 15. It's also good to keep some good low level guns handy in your vault if you're always creating new chars. (I've got a level 12 rare primary which serves me well from Level 12-20). If you're worried about not having enough armor or dealing enough damage, maybe stash up some blue engrams from your mains and use them here.
Stage 3: Level 16-18 (~2hours)
Once you hit level 15, all the remaining missions from Venus and Mars should be quite straightforward, again, just run past enemies and only shoot at the ones you need to. I normally don't bother doing the missions with the heroic modifier on since the additional xp you earn is not worth the time you spend killing the ultras/majors UNLESS you have access to bounties which tells you have to kill a certain enemy with the heroic modifier on. If so then you should do it. While completing the missions just be aware of the bounties the postmaster gives you such as killing 10 vex majors/ultras (you shouldn't need to farm for these ultras on purpose, the ones you encounter through the missions should be sufficient enough for you to complete the bounty after you finish all the missions). By the time you hit the last mission on Mars, The Black Garden, you should be level 18, if not then you should grind a bit in the crucible or by other means you feel like.
Stage 4: Level 19-20 (~1.5hrs) [We're nearly there!]
Once all the story missions are completed, I will go back to the bounty board and complete any crucible bounties that are available. Completing these should get you close to 19 if not 19 already. After that I'll complete any vanguard bounties left and also complete the strike bounties given to me by the postmaster (ie. Phogoth and Nexus). Completing these should get you close to 20. To reach 20 I usually just hit the crucible (yeah I love the crucible=]) if you don't like the crucible, you can probably try the vanguard strikes, but I tend to find them repetitive and boring. AND finally you're level 20 and ready to repeat all the raids and weeklys hoping you'll get the drops you want. If it's a new character, then have fun grinding for armor! =]
Additional Notes:
- Bounties I try not doing unless I have to:
Crucible: Buckshot bruiser, Fusion rifle sprees, 10 Guardians on vehicles
Vanguard: 3x Gold Tier Public Events (http://destinypublicevents.com/)
- After you complete the mission and there's the 30sec counter, just return back to orbit to save time.
- Pop a tv series or watch something on the side while you're doing the missions, it makes the mind numbing experience bearable. (you'll want to bring your A-game to the crucible)
- I am more than happy for others to share better ways as I love efficiency and finding better ways to improve
HAPPY GRINDING GUARDIANS!
