Very interesting post. Rummaging out of boredom and this was one of the first to pop up. In any case, every female gamers' experience is different. The most I can say (and this is speaking from my personal experience) is to be upfront and yourself. It's true, some guys do try to act out and different; but in general it is all gamers' job (of all varieties) to try and make gaming a pleasant experience. So in point, just throw out everything that makes us different and keep what makes us the same: people who enjoy playing video games. Be upfront and honest. I know that sentiment gets lost considering you're behind a screen and no one knows who you are and what you look like, but it's a value I hope people still have. Thanks for the post. Hopefully you get some answers. My inbox is always open to those who want healthy debates and discussions.

  • Did the post help your boredom then? yes, I'd like to see a more pleasant experience for every gamer. on another topic, people still make racial comments based on peoples accent. I dont believe I have a heavy accent but at times my slang comes out, or certain expressions that give away that I am Hispanic. I was owning some guy on halo the other night and he called me a "half -blam!-".. I didn't see how his comment was going to affect the result of the match. I was obviously a better skilled at the game than he was, but I thought it was funny that racist comments still go around now a days.

  • I know it sounds horrible that I rummage through these things bored, but I will admit this post did get me thinking. As far as the racial slurs and issues go, I have had an experience with a few gamers because of my heritage (I'm Jamaican, but I don't sound like it) that they (gamers in general) find it to be doubly insulting/weird/uncomfortable/strange/etc. that I am not only "black" but female. I admit my slang does come out when I game simply because I'm in the heat of the moment and I am having fun. One such experience was when I was helping out a friend with a Raid on Destiny, and he had three other people in his party making us five total. They were all Canadian with myself being the only American. Two of the guys were making racial slurs and comments, often using -blam!-. Myself, I am not bothered by such words and so I played along stating that "I apologize that my color makes gaming uncomfortable for you and makes you feel like -blam!- are inferior players based on their skin". At first they didn't get it until my friend stated that I was black. The two offenders immediately starting laughing, stating that they were indeed racist and that's just what they called everyone that they considered "bad/shitty players". They then made it their mission to make me EXTREMELY uncomfortable in the party often asking if I was truly black or was I just kidding, why I talked so "white", if I really was female, etc. which I admit did make me uncomfortable. At one point, one of the players' wife wanted to come on the chat mic to say hello (apparently they all knew each other outside of the game). Quite loudly, he let her know that there was a "-blam!- in the party so don't say -blam!-". He then even made mock apologies stating that this is how they were and they would continue to act in that manner. In response to their poking and prodding, I remained silent for the remainder of the time because I didn't want to argue or make the game anymore awkward. After the raid was done, I said good-bye to my friend and promptly left. Needless to say, we haven't spoken since then. As much as I have had awkward/racial interactions with other players on Xbox, I've never had something that extreme happen to me before, But with anything, you take the good with the bad experiences and move on.

  • Beautiful thing about forums. You don't have to read anything you don't want to
