[You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.]
Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness.
I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play.
Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game.
Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way.
Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential.

Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to:

"But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation".

"The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear".

"Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

To the people disagreeing about this. The argument that the current weapons will make future ones then not worth the grind. I disagree, the force to collect all raid weapons is very strong.

Perhaps the best way to 'upgrade' these weapons would be with a new drop from a Super Hard version of the same raid? So you're still relying somewhat on RNGesus (which would keep Bungie happy), and you still have to earn it by playing through the Raids again. Then, take them to the Gunsmith (as suggested above) with a crap load of glimmer/upgrade materials and let him do his thing. Perhaps the Gunsmith could even take the gun away from you for a few days/week so you have to be without while he carries out the upgrades? I also love the idea of raid equipment being useful again. So we don't have to all look virtually identical if we want to be at or near the max level cap.

Brilliant idea!!! BUMP Di Di BUMP!!!

Agreed! Let's not make these weapons useless. Some of them are great!

Bungie stop taking and start giving, you want our money to maintain a 10 year franchise, then make it worth it for the lifespan off the game, take any of these ideas and apply them to the game, I'm happy to grind, but just do something instead of expecting us to just settle.

Bump for the numbers

I fully agree

I agree with the everyone looks the same. I think you should be able to change the appearance of amour i.e if you have a bit you like the look of and then some new raid amour that better you can take them both to a vender of sorts and have one re-crafted to look like another. also the shaders are dumb I want to be able to buy colours/paints or earn then and apply them to amour items rather then whole avatar that would be great and help to stop everyone wearing white and bring some diversity to the guardians. So all Bungie needs to do is pop over to blizzard and get some help from them, these things are already in Diablo and WOW as there both owned buy the big evil Activation anyway I'm sure it wont be a problem.

Bump!

I dunno.. They definitely aren't irrelevant yet

Edited by monkyken: 1/7/2015 1:16:57 PMI think they should do something similar to the Necrocasem (whatever its called) release a new vog level 31 and have it drop a raid shard (you get what I mean) that will allow you to upgrade your old raid armour/Weapons to the new ones. The new raid could also drop the upgraded versions that start at 300 but still only max out to 331 but perhaps have a shorter upgrade path as you would be starting fresh? They could continue this all the way up to light 40 and beyond and it would mean previously earned weapons dont become redundant you can still earn the new ones or you can upgrade the old ones?

agreed,

Agreed. Make the gunsmith useful. Let him reset our vog and legendary weapons

Edited by xl mderms lx: 1/7/2015 12:57:24 PMNope, while I understand the disappointment in that you can't continue your favorite gun usage on the par with new 331 weapons, the idea that old content be made to max with new content is just dumb...I don't see you equipping your white gear for nostalgia's sake....because that would be stupid for white old gear to scale up with new white or higher gear. And of course it will come back that you meant 'vog' items only. Which simply proves my point. If they did do this...they would have to do it game-round...not just biased for one raid. Will never-ever happen. That would be like them saying here's a new xpac but don't worry, all you level 30's still don't need to buy it because all your gear/weapons will do just as much damage as the current endgame content...aka st0000000pid And by saying you don't want raids to become irrelevant, what reason would people have to struggle thru endgame if they can steamroll thru a level 26 raid and have it equal out the stats from endgame?
-
If bungie were to make each old tier of gear the same quality as future gear upon release of an expansion... I will quit. I hope this doesn't happen because this is the only game I've played for over 3 months. There is nothing to keep you progressing if they do this. There is also no reason to buy the expansions if they do this... It would be a freebie fest for all of the people who don't buy the expansions, and for those of us that do buy them, all we get to differentiate from vanilla players is a few extra pixels to shoot at with gear we didn't have to earn from the content. This whole idea is terrible, and unprecedented. No other game that has expansions like this updates gear to the expansion stats. And that's to avoid the game getting bland and boring.

To have the choice to do so is important. If you don't want to upgrade and use newer weapons then fine that's your choice. But at least have the option to do so if you want to.

Edited by Ereaser: 1/7/2015 12:31:06 PMI wouldn't mind spending 20-25 ascendant energy to upgrade VoG weapons even if it would reset their progres.
