[You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.]
Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness.
I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play.
Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game.
Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way.
Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential.

Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to:

"But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation".

"The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear".

"Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

What if we could exchange, lets say 3 VoC, at the gunsmith for an upgraded one. It could also cost maybe 10 ascendant energy and/or some kind of synthesis (depending on the weapon type) and some glimmer. This way, if you want an upgraded VoC and only have one, it gives you a reason to grind the VoG. Just a thought. It would give the old raid AND the gunsmith purpose. Any thoughts? The same could be done with armor at the vanguards.

Edited by kai: 1/7/2015 2:49:03 PMOld raid stuff should never be same lvl as current raid stuff, but should be higher than non-raid stuff. Current raid stuff = raid lvl stuff old raid stuff = upgradable to current raid level stuff -1 current non-raid stuff =current raid level stuff -2 SO.... CE gear = 331 (weapons), 32 (equipment) VoG gear = 315/320 (weapons), 31 (equipment) non-raid gear= 310 (weapons), 30/31(equipment)..... 31 because i dont think new and returning players should be stuck in VoG for weeks of RNGjesus till they can set foot into CE. Also, with that idea, the upgrapding path should require a "current content" weapons/equipment to upgrade the old one. To upgrade a VoG weapon or gear, you would need a CE weapon/equipment. I dont think the upgrade system should expand into non-raid gear, it becomes too muc rehashing imo. You could upgrade raid gear and raid gear only, and the upgradable gear wont match the current raid level.... for obvious reasons. Now, in the next raid tier, i dont know if we should be able upgrade VoG gear again.....by then they should give some ways for us to start customizing our stuff (not deep customizing tho).

I notice there was no mention of the Lv 32 VoG. As far as I'm concerned, I expect all drops from that to be 331 weapons/+33(at least) armor
-
I think you people are missing the fact that Bungie stated in an old update that VOG level cap WILL be raised. They didn't say anything about the drops along with it, but I will tell you this: When data mining the current items in the database, their is a brand new set of VoG armor in there. Not sure if it will be retooled or re skinned, but it is safe to say we will get new max level armour. It is safe to say at that point new or updates weapons will drop. Be patient and see what is coming. They are definitely updating the VoG.
-
I would love to see something along these lines. I am at the point where I want to start raiding but I dont think I'll do VOG just because of the lower level goodies. I would rather just do CE.
-
You guys realize that in the VoG, weapons over 300 and armor over 30 don't have any greater effect right? Might as well use those VoG weapons s for their oracle perks and that armor for the minotaur/super/oracle perks. It maxes at level 30, so it's not going to give you more damage and more defense from 30+ weapons and armor.

Let's say your upgrading fatebringer u give the gunsmith your fully up graded fatebringer and then u give the gunsmith the new raid hand cannon the new raid hand cannon is deleted but your fatebringer now has the potential to be 331 this or the way u upgrade to the necrochasim the gun starts as a vog weapon and after you kill a sertan amount of vex u can go into hm vog and by killing atheon u can get a crux of Crota type thing that is used to upgrade you 300 vog weapon to331
-
You bring up some very good points, may I suggest some changes? 1. All old vog gear and weopons stay at thier unrelavant range, but all new gear is at the level cap, no chance for upgrades. 2.vangard gear should never be higher than a raid piece, are you telling us that your first raid which was praised for origionality, is useless? I built a new character and never once did VOG he is now a 31, so there's that. 3.worat case scenario vog gear should be 33, and vangard should be pushed back to 30, weopons the same idea, I grinded vog for those great weopons, for them to be replaced and rendered obsolete, give us the chance to regrind for better versions. I don't understand why any came would want to render all old content obsolete, if they are planning a 10 year game noone will play of the only thing to do is the new raid, and vangard, leaving all old raids useless
-
I was under the impression that an even higher level VoG was going to be released soon. That will no doubt bring higher level gear.
-
Edited by Kanil2: 1/7/2015 2:27:26 PMMaybe have to 're-earn' 331 damage raid weapons in a Lvl 32 option on VoG. I still play VoG every weekly reset as it is the original and still the best/most enjoyable raid. Crota's end raid is bollocks in my opinion. No 'hold your own spots' like at the conflux/sync plate parts on VoG.

I can't believe how many upvotes this thread has gotten. This just tells me how stupid the Destiny community really is.
-
100% agree my fatebringer deserves to be 331
-
One of the issues with NOT being able to upgrade old weapons and armor, is that everyone is going to be using the newest raid gear ONLY and the newest Raid weapons as well. In other words, everyone is going to be the same. I wouldn't mind using various things from the VoG, Iron Banner, Queen's Wrath, and Crota's End. If the old stuff is just left in the dust, then you can't mix and match for a little variety.
-
Banshee could do it.....he doesn't have much use to anyone above level 3
-
-
A level 32 VoG would be amazing! Not an automatic upgrade but the chance to get the weapons at that level!

Word up!

Yeah they need to keep older raids rellavent.

Welcome to an MMO type of game. The old stays old (so consider how lucky we are that they even give the option to upgrade them at all) and you have to continue into the new. Learn how these types of games work before complaining. Why are my lvl 60 weapons in WoW worthless to me at lvl 100????
-
Obsolete not irrelevant, irrelevant means having no relation, obsolete meaning it's old and there are so much better items then it

This would be great. Or they could at least keep increasing the lvl of VoG so there will be higher lvl weapon drops.
