[You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.]
Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness.
I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play.
Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game.
Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way.
Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential.

Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to:

"But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation".

"The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear".

"Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

Yes they should upgrade VOG it would make new players and us have more decision for example "hmm VoG stuff looks cool I'll probably do that but Crotas end gots some cool stuff too!" If Bungie wanted this then they have to make Vog the same level as Crotas end it would just bring more content.

Bump this. Otherwise I have no reason to touch the Vault ever again.

Bumb because the truth hurts

The way you upgrade your old raid gear should be by beating the new raid on hard so you can't hit level cap so easily or some other method that isn't easy

No.-blam!- using a fate bringer for the next ten years. I like having to collect all new guns, it is the only fun thing about all this grind. Do people not realise that once they have fatebringer, IB, Ghorn, Hunger, Bhammer they will literally never need another gun drop? You will literally just go through each DLC buying the upgrade to a previous gun rather than having the enjoyment of finding brand new gun to replace your old, less damaging guns. If you really wanna log in and use the same 5 guns everyday for the next ten years I suggest you keep playing counter strike.

Edited by BADJABEAR: 1/8/2015 9:45:48 AMTo put my own opinion on what i think is a good topic touches on what a few people have said. Apologies in advance if anyone has posted the following suggestion word for word but the threat is too big for me to check all previous posts... I think it is correct that the CE weapons should be among the most powerful in the game. However, it is crappy that the new guns not obtained in the raid are also better than those guns obtained in the last raid. I feel the solution is a little convoluted, but makes long term sense to the progression system bungie have chosen (and more importantly have every right to continue to use). Raid gear should not be legendary in status. All raid drops should be designated MYTHIC and should be red or some other colour to differentiate. In the hiararchy of guns, legendary guns should shoot for 331, with older legendary guns being upgradable to 331 with a weapon mod sold by the gunsmith - lets give it a really crappy name for the sake of being like 'frame of fortune'. If you want to upgrade a legendary gun, you'll need 4000 glimmer and a vanguard or crucible commendation (either is fine) to buy the 'frame of fortune) which will get older legendary weapons to 331. So that covers legendary. Mythic (raid) weapons would have to be different, a patch would see all CE weapons achieve a maximum damage stat of 340. All the VOG weapons would be re-designated 'mythic' and would have a 331 base damage - this is because i feel it is correct that CE should at the moment offer the best weapons in the game. vOG guns can meet the 331 standard, but the currect raid guns should always be a bit more to encourage forward progression. 'But what about when house of wolves comes out?' came the inevitable cry of horror from the community... This is where the gunsmith comes in again. Once the new HOW raid drops the weapons will likely top out at 350. At this stage, old raid weapons should meet the 340 damage from CE to avoid them being left behind. For lets call it 6000 glimmer and a recommendation our trusty gunsmith could fit a 'frame of the furious' (these names keep getting better and better eh?!) to get the gun to that 340 figure! Legendary weapons would again be able to reupgraded from 331 or even all the way down from 300 with a frame of fortune 2.0, which would increase with each further content drop. The reason i think this route works is it continues to use the concept of vanguard commendations - which currently i find myself nit using. The guns for sale simply aren't that cracking in my opinion (hell, my opinion isn't a very knowledgeable one - I'm not the brightest light out in the darkness i assure you, but i have been playing since day one so i think I've got as much of a right as anyone to claim i think i know what they're trying to do progression wise). I sometimes feel like agent K in men in black - terrible analagy coming up here - but my guns are my guns. I dont have many of them but what I have i like. If some bug swallows them up (read as the bug being a dlc drop haha) id like the chance to be able to go in and get them back (read as jump into the dlc and start upgrading old gear to make it useful again) Wow. We made it through the terrible analagy. Is everyone okay? If tou didnt just blow your brains out over the tedium of that last paragraph please write to bungie directly for a free uncommon engram. Its on me ;) If i could use those commendations to buy items that would upgrade the guns i love - my guns - i would totally jump into that. Hopefully you get the point. Redesignating guns mythic removes the growing confusion around what gear does what and where it maxes out. It'd also help clarify for armour what catagory reaches what levels. mythic/raid gear would always reach the highest levels - i always seem to be explaining to an xmas noob that some legendaries will get you to level 30, some to 31 and some to 32. Hell we could even have an upgrade system allowing VOG gear to get to 31 (again, i feel the current raid should always offer a slightly better prize until the next dlc drop, meaning VOG gear at level 32 would only be available after the HOW raid launches. Does that make sense? Sorry for the long post, but this thread speaks to these ideas ive had for sometime (cheers OP) Happy killing y'all.

Well the level cap in HoW won't be increasing, so the dark below weapons will probably still be just as good as that raid. The way to lol stir is this. You get the base game Destiny, which is like the free to play version of an mmo. You get a cool awesome level, the VoG, which has some cool weapons and gear. Buy one of the paid expansions however and you unlock the high tier weapons, pay to play. It's how business works, they get you playing the version with the weaker gear and then ask you to pay for the "true" content. Just accept it, like others have said, it's just a game so don't stress over it too much

They are legendary...plain and simple NO UPGRADE But exotic yes, should be updated.

OH MY -blam!-ING GOD ITS JUST A VIDEO GAME!!! IF YOU ARENT PLEASED WITH HOW EVERYTHING IS, JUST STOP PLAYING. YOU DONT THINK THEY KNOW THE OLD RAID GEAR IS ONLY TO LVL 30 OR 300 DAMAGE? DONT USE IT IF YOURE GOING TO BE A BITCH ABOUT IT. MOST YOU PPL SPEND MAYBE 16 HOURS A DAY PLAYING THE GAME, SO IM SURE YOU HAVE OTHER EXOTICS TO USE. ITS A -blam!-ING VIDEO GAME, ITS NOT THAT SERIOUS.
-
You've clearly never played this type of game the point is weapons become irrelevant after new content is released I would be very unhappy is bungie gave in and buffed VOG weapons
-
easy solution: make VOG drop a weapon upgrade crystal, apply to weapon from xur and get your upgraded version, Problem solved
