[You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.]
Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness.
I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play.
Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game.
Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way.
Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential.

Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to:

"But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation".

"The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear".

"Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

Yes man, dont let raid weapons become obsolete, its not that we have a gigantic weapon pool. Plus they are raid weapons, it took effort getting them. Plus how things are now, every raid legendary is absolete in 2/3 months. Thats bs.

The upgrade system could benefit from a near total overhaul. Rather than having static damage/armor upgrades built in as perks, an ability to use Ascendant and Radiant material on any weapon or armor to increase its attack/defense until it reaches the current cap. If Bungie wants to preserve the Raid being required to reach the maximum level, then have a material drop from the Raid only be required to upgrade to the maximum Light level. This would allow players to customize their appearance how they see fit. Being able to hit max level even with Rare armor if they would want (only sacrificing the extra perks on a legendary piece.) This would allow older weapons and armor to be upgraded whenever a new DLC drops without any change to the gear to be made, just bump up the maximum attack/defense value. Done and done. Bump.

321 we don't want them topping new raid weapons

I think they will do something to keep them relevant.. but not until there are more raids available.. I wouldn't be surprised by a relevancy patch around the time of the comet, at which point excluding the new raid there will be 3 other raids to turn into a new event. I call it exotic raids. on a monthly rotation there is an exotic raid made from all but current raid. it functions at or 1-2 levels below the level cap, each month is picks one, and grabs a random selection of nightfall modifiers with guaranteed heroic modifier. you'll only get credit/drops once a month per character.. but all weapons and armor dropped in said run are scaled up to current maxes equivalent to current raid gear. not only would this keep weapons relevant but it would allow for variation in maxxed level gear. oh and a guaranteed exotic engram for completion of the raid. that's my preference.

If they did let us upgrade it, I would never stop using my fatebringer.

One word, progression, ads the fact that bunglevision actually want people to buy dlc, which they wouldn't if gear is the same, seriously just take a second to think, vendors should only sell 29 gear that keeps raids relevant.

People keep saying that, if you boost older raid gear to match current levels, it would invalidate newer raids, thus ruining the ever-progressing, MMO aspect of the game. Simple solution; like others have proposed, what if the only way to upgrade older weapons was via a drop in newer raids that would be able to level-up older raid gear to match the stats of the newer raid gear? That way, there's always a reason to play the newest content (making the developers happy by still supporting DLC!), because the newest DLC raid will always yield better base stats, without completely invalidating the players' previous efforts and chosen playstyle by forcing them to abandon their favorite raid gear (making the players happy!). Assuming this upgrade path is reserved for RAID GEAR ONLY, it serves to preserve the DLC-driven ecosystem while also making sure that end-game content stays continually relevant. That way, newcomers will have a reason to experience the full breadth of content the game has to offer, which I'm sure we can all agree is what a great game should strive for. TL;DR- New raids should have a potential drop that will raise older raid gear to whatever level the new raid gear is. Thus, DLC raid content remains necessary for continued level progression, without invalidating existing raid content. :D Bungie/Activision gets our money, and we don't have our efforts pooped on! YAY!

Each dlc they should add a 3x row of upgrades to raid and exotic weapons which requires that new docs materials to complete. So. Vog raid gear at 300 / 30 (weapons / armor) and requires 3 new upgrades with new shards/energy. Boom. Now you get to choose your gear. By hue gets people having to play the new dlc. Done.
-
All those useless accommodation I have. How about using them to re-roll VoG weapons at the gunsmith to 331.
-
Then the vog raid would be to easy @ Lvl 26 when you could kill oracles with 1shot They would have to up the levels on vog to match Crota

You know what sucks? Blues in the next dlc will be 294. (most likely) lol

Edited by Lib3ralwithaGun: 2/1/2015 4:55:08 AMNO LEGENDARY IN THE GAME SHOULD BE RENDERED IRRELEVANT. WE NEED A WAY TO UPGRADE LEGENDARY GEAR. PERIOD EDIT: They don't have to be upgraded to the same level raid gear is. Just to a level of competence for each DLC.

This is the stupidest petition I've read. Honestly do you want there to be game progression? Harder raids should yield better weapons

Signed!

Is it really that hard to put suggestions in the appropriate forum?
-
It should be level 33 and drop 331 weapons and 32 light armour.
-
Raids are always for a specific set of levels. There are lvl 30-39 raids 45-50 raids so on and so forth. This is the norm. You just seem to want vault of glass to always be the top tier raid. Its not the case and shouldnt be top tier. Weapon attack power really does not mean that much and probably wont until you get into the 40s in terms of level.

What about 323 like the vex that would also be better

331 Fatebringer!

Signed.
