Let us cancel back to orbit while loading new areas/activities
So after selecting your destination from orbit and pressing launch, you are given a 3 second countdown after which the game begins loading the new activity.
If the selected activity utilizes matchmaking the player is allowed to cancel this action as long as the matchmaking process has not completed. However, once matchmaking completes, or when it is not used in the activity, a loading sequence commences that you are unable to cancel. This sequence generally displays the players ship approaching the target planet for awhile, followed by the pre-mission cutscene if one is present.
If a player wishes to return to orbit after this loading sequence starts they will not have the option of doing so until their character spawns at the new destination. This can be frustrating for people who begin loading an activity and quickly realize they need to back out, but then have to wait 30-45 seconds just for the ability to do so.
It may seem incredibly impatient to complain about this. But I read a posting recently where players were discussing switching characters as being the faster method to return to orbit when this situation occurs. So if it is possible to cancel the loading screen using that workaround, then I see no reason why Bungie shouldn't allow players to cancel it manually if they choose.
A simple button press or hold should immediately halt this loading sequence and return you to the orbit screen, no time wasted. My humble yet longwinded request.
