WHY?
GOOD QUESTION. Obviously a contract was made between Sony and Bungie to guarantee exclusives for playstation, BUT. The question is, WHY. Clearly, Sony paid some cash for that, in hopes it would sway a many a folk to buy a playstation, to have the "superior" destiny console. What I don't understand is that, WHY, did Microsoft not make this deal. Now let's get something straight, Microsoft is SO F*CKING RICH, the second wealthiest company in the world (behind apple), Bill Gates who helped to found it, is so f*cking rich, he alone could buy out sony, bend it over a barrel and ride that f*cker into the ground, and he would still be one of the richest men in the world, no sweat. SO, Just imagine how much cash the entire company has. It seems Microsoft could have easily made that contract right? But there's more to it, now I'm not sure about what happened exactly. No one knows if Microsoft just didn't see the opportunity as feasible or outright decided, F*ck you Bungie, for even considering another console as your exclusive outlet. And the latter makes more sense to me, because listen up. Obviously Halo was an outstanding franchise that "defined a generation" and popularized first person shooters, made them mainstream. But did you ever think to realize who made Bungie!!!?, F*cking MICROSOFT MADE BUNGIE WHO THEY ARE TODAY, without Microsoft taking a leap, signing Bungie in to the squad and taking them under their wing, guiding them to greatness, you likely wouldn't know what the f*ck I was talking about when I said Bungie, you'd probably think I was some weird assmotherf*cker talking about trampolines or some sh*t. Bungie owes EVERYTHING to Microsoft. So it begs the question, WHY, WHY did Bungie choose Sony over Microsoft, over the company that nurtured and cared for their frightened newborn baby of a company in Bungie? I DONT KNOW. But it pisses me the f*ck off and poses as a monumental curiosity in my eyes! Thank you for your time.

They knew destiny was crap so why try
-
You are fully aware that bungie came to microsoft first for the exclusive advertisement deal and they turned them down, sony took them up on it and got the exclusives, not that big of a deal
-
Im guessing its because of the sour relationship between Microsoft and Bungie.
-
Couldent agree more. This entire ordeal hasent made, and will continue to make no sense as i dont think Bungie will ever spill the details but what ever it is/was it lost them Joe and Marty, and thats bad enough. I think in this case we can firmly say, Activision and Playstation ruined what could have been an amazing game.
-
It truly is sad that the community that made bungie what they are gets the sh*t end of the stick when it comes to destiny. Along with all the DLC thats to come out, Playstation users get like 5 extra strike missions and god knows how many new weapons. I dont know about you guys but im still trying to figure out what the fu*k went wrong.
-
First off your idiots, it was activision that signed the ps exclusives not bungie, so this whole thread is a waste of time.
-
Actually the fans made bungie
-
Good question because play station sucks unless it's a ps2
-
Couple of weapons, hard to find armor, and some meh (at best strikes)? Not missing much. Ps4 user here as well.
-
The way i see it... Xbox user get new content and weapons in september while PS has old content. It might be their old content but itll be new and fresh to us and keep us interested in the game and gives us something to look forward to.

Fake questiom, dont be fooled

Edited by SnakeDoc518: 1/3/2015 10:51:49 PMlol. it was actually the other way around.....while microsoft was known for their PC operating system, they were not known for their games division, and the Xbox was a big leap for them....Bungie was already an established developer, known for having made a number of successful games, such as; Myth, the Marathon series, and Oni. Had it not been for Halo, the Xbox would have fallen flat on it's face. Bungie MADE Xbox.

Xbox users will never get the hawkmoon. Neva gonna get it neva gonna get it neva gonna get it.
-
I think the answer to all of this, that you failed to mention is Activision.
-
I'm a Playstation guy, and I will agree with you that the exclusive content deal sucks. You could shrug it off last generation as the terms of these deals were so short. We're seeing huge escalation here, and sooner or later everyone who doesn't own both platforms is going to lose. I'm not enjoying my Hawkmoon any more than I would if it were available on MS platforms, and your Tomb Raider experience won't be any better than it would have been had PC and PS versions been bought into delayed (or non) existence. As for being left behind by Bungie, this deal was surely brokered by Activision.
-
What happened to that awesome franchise Halo? Who now owns it? Complexity and solely? Who uses the intellectual property to further there other products? Would you want to give them your next baby too or hopefully retain most of it? Even if the decision was just made out of spite?
Microsoft is the answer. They own all intellectual property relating to Halo. They use it and it's characters for profit in other areas. Cortona phone assistant, Spartan browser. They also took bungie employees to make 343 studios to make more halo games. As well as forcing Reach. I'm not 100% positive on this. But I recall Bungie being done after halo 3 and Microsoft wanted another game. Hence Reach.
They also f**ked bungie out of the masterpeice that they created so why would they go scurrying back to the same hand that smacked them the first time?
-
Your sense of business is a bit skewed mi amigo
-
I figured it's one of two options: A) Microsoft figured it wouldn't be a good deal because the game wouldn't sell good/wouldn't have a lot of players (and as you can see from everyone quitting and how people say it's not a full game I could see this being a reason) B) Bungie didn't want Microsoft because of how they treated them in the past when Microsoft said Bungie could only make Halo games. That could've soiled their relationship so Bungie wanted Sony instead.
-
TL;DR
-
Sony made an offer. Microsoft didn't make an offer. Simple.
-
I don't care if PS has exclusives, I just don't want it to be exclusive for a year. Maybe like a few months or something, but not a year..
-
It's simple... Bungie did the deal in a attempt to reach a market it hadn't tapped in the previous generation.. Microsoft could have offered more money but bungie could have decided on expanding it's market being more important. It's basic business stuff man

Edited by FunkTheWorld: 1/3/2015 9:05:27 PMI'd argue that Halo is more essential to making the Xbox what it is than Microsoft making Bungie. They gave them their break, sure, but I think Bungie has more than paid that debt off. It was business anyway. Microsoft knew what they were getting into when signing Bungie, don't act like they were doing them a favor. Microsoft is a business and took in Bungie in hopes of making money, nothing else. Look at what Bungie has done both directly and indirectly for Microsoft and games in general: Halo, a massive franchise whether you like it or not (and I really do not like Halo that much at all), has singlehandedly moved consoles for Microsoft for 2 and going on 3 generations of consoles now. It is THE exclusive for Xbox, it's practically the face of the Xbox. E-Sports basically took off on console because of Halo. CoD wouldn't be where it is right now in e-sports if it wasn't for Halo. CoD, even though It isn't an exclusive, is still a pretty big reason a lot of people buy Xbox consoles. It's where MLG is and it has a large following. It's THE console for competitive e-sports on console. You act as if Bungie owes Microsoft something, that's not the case. Microsoft has the rights to Halo for crying out loud, one of the biggest game franchises in history.

Apple is not the richest company in the world. That title is currently held by ExxonMobil. In 2014 they made something like 384 billion dollars in revenue so no they aren't the richest

Edited by Sonic Roctopus: 1/3/2015 7:53:01 PMI've been saying this for a while. Do not blame bungie or the players. Bungie/activision made a good business decision and took a good offer. Microsoft has much more money than sony and could've easily countered Sony offer if they wanted to and chose not to(usually they do pay for exclusive content). They must've thought this game was not worth it. Complain to microsoft.
