Decimate means you would kill 1/10 of their army. Before you use big fancy words learn the meaning :-)

  • When using definitions, the '#1' definition is the one used by most people in most circumstances. For example: dec·i·mate ˈdesəˌmāt verb 1. kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of. "the project would decimate the fragile wetland wilderness" drastically reduce the strength or effectiveness of (something). "plant viruses that can decimate yields" 2. historical kill one in every ten of (a group of soldiers or others) as a punishment for the whole group. As per the common definition, my usage of decimate is correct, whereas you chose to use the archaic, historical definition in an attempt to save face. You are also referencing 'decimate' in terms of a punitive action, which is completely different from what I have used it in reference to. I applaud your attempt but your reading comprehension skills, unfortunately, let you down.

  • I didn't have to google decimate to know either.

  • Congratulations for knowing the old definition of a word and correcting someone who used the proper definition in the proper context? You realize you're the one who -blam!-ed up, right?

  • Not at all. I use decimate in the correct context all the time. That being the way it's supposed to be used not the idiotic American version. Used to try and make their decimation look better than it actually is!

  • I suppose you took my advice though and learnt the meaning :-) haha
