The Stranger is an Exo, a self-aware AI, and not the first in a Bungie game as we all know. Durandal and Cortana came before her, in Marathon and Halo, respectively. Durendal and Curtana were also both swords wielded by King Charlemagne's closest advisors and lieutenants in the ninth century, CE. There was also a third sword, Joyeuse, wielded by Charlemagne himself and was allegedly forged from the same steel as Durendal and Curtana. Considering that all swords were carried by Charlemagne's inner circle, Charlemagne is frequently referenced in Bungie games, and so far the first two swords were AI constructs that were important to the story , it stands to reason that the mystery Exo Hunter is called Joyeuse.
