I look down at this thread and see a bunch of No Land Beyond buff topics. I'd like to try and start an unofficial hub for No Land Beyond buff suggestions that Bungie can look at for all the No Land Beyond buff ideas. Let’s begin with my thoughts on it.
Lower the zoom
First and foremost I'd like to be able to use it. By this, I mean improving the awkward zoom that its currently at. It's a bolt action rifle with iron sights, the first time you use it you think its going to be a close range type of sniper...It's not. It zooms in WAY too much for my liking, it makes it awkward to acquire targets, it makes it seem like my sensitivity has been raised, and it makes it feel nothing like an old WW bolt action. You know what I'm talking about if you've ever played a WWII shooter that features a bolt-action. If you wanna know what I'm talking about, look at the game Heroes and Generals, its F2P right now on steam. I'm talking to you too devs, it's not wrong to take inspiration from other games.
Get rid of the lens flare, there's no lens
That sort of explains itself, there is no need for other snipers to be able to see you across the map when you're at such a disadvantage at range.
Damage/Perk changes
I read that the precision damage and just base damage has a way lower stat than regular snipers, which also needs to change. That needs to change. Think about it being a one shot kill, just for a second, just to the chest/head. How OP would it really be? It's hard enough to hit a shot already, this would make it an Exotic. It's not unique enough as it currently is. If this doesn't happen, then I think the main perk for it should be a stun affect, much like the Titan's grenade that disables abilities. Of course, it wouldn't be as effective as the grenade, but I'm thinking something like just slowing the enemy down long enough to pull the bolt back and get a second shot off. If you miss the second shot, your target has probably escaped already. This would also make it more like an Exotic weapon. Why not just redo the weapon completely? I think it needs it.
Ammo pool
This is more of an issue in PvE than it is in PvP (PvP you spawn with primary ammo every death). Yesterday I ran through a daily story with it and constantly ran out of ammo. I even used an ammo synthesis for it. I think the total capacity is something like 24. 24 shots is simply not enough, I think it should have the same ammo pool as hand-cannons. Around 12 in a mag and around 90 total shots.
Rate of Fire
Ok, it's a bolt-action. We get it. But that doesn't mean the pullback needs to take that long, it’s a video game. Idk if the flared magwell affects this or not, I didn't look that up. If it does I'll just delete this section if it does. I'll leave it open for discussion though.
There's a couple more things probably, but I can't think of them. Since Xur is selling it right now, I'm sure there's a lot of people with some suggestions, leave your suggestions below. No opinion is wrong, it’s your opinion.
All in all, I like the gun. It has potential, it’s got a nice visual design but just does not perform.

Edited by Pilot8091: 1/4/2015 6:17:17 AMHere is what I thought. The suggestion about the lens flare, didn't even know that was a thing, BUNGIE FIX IT The ammo pool should be around 60 or higher, at least the amount of a shoddy hand cannon. BUNGIE FIX IT The rate of fire lacks something to be desired however FUN FACT ABOUT THE NO LAND BEYOND= it is modeled after the PTRD-41 Russian anti tank rifle (grimoir states it is pre-golden age, hinting at the fact that it is from our time period roughly) . Seeing that it is an ANTI TANK RIFLE I think, as an Exotic it would be realistic to do massive amounts of critical damage. (Maybe around 7-9k) but lack in normal damage. (Since if you hit a Dreg in the leg with it it would probably just go straight through [or just rip it off]) this would make it good for boss fights but impractical for just about everything else like a real anti tank rifle, just like Deejay said "feels powerful but not game breaking". [edit1: rate of fire- it's fine as long as it gets a damage buff. I would really hate this gun to become a COD sniper with an irrationally quick rechamber. It is an anti tank rifle, the bolt assembly is going to be big and clunky, just like it is in the game. I think this could be one of the coolest exotics if Bungie stays true to its real life origins. edit2: Clip size: tbh you are lucky it has a clip, many of the models of this gun are single shot, where you have to reload every time. Again it should be fine with the damage buff and I think Bungie should stay true to its real life origins. edit3: zoom should be less dramatic, nuff said.] I love the No Land Beyond. It looks awesome and feels great, it just isn't practical for anything! I would love to see a lot more damage and for the gun to feel like a PTRD. Big Bang, Recoil And DEVASTATION IN ITS WAKE, BLAZING THE PATH TO RECLAMATION ONE SHOT AT A TIME!

So this didn't work :P Oh well, I tried.

I've tried to use it, give it a chance. Let's face it its s awful gun no matter how you look at it.

I agree with pretty much all of this, the zoom is awkward and doesn't make sense due to them being iron sights just like on an Assault Rifle or a Hand Cannon, the lens flare is also nonsensical and without it the gun will be even more special, Master isn't very useful at all, mulligan is useless on a slow firing precision weapon, something like return to sender would be MUCH better, and the gun is vastly under-powered. With thorn I could pull off even more damage AND shoot a lot faster. The ammo pool is a HUGE problems because I have increased sniper ammo and some glitch keeps me only having 6 bullets in the mag and 9 in reserve, only 15 BULLETS! That isn't even the max ammo for the small amount that you CAN have max. The rate of fire is somewhat problematic so it should be a bit faster so I can actually shoot a tough enemy before he recovers from stumbling.

They need to remove the ranged Iron sight above the standard sight. Really gets in the way as no one is using this weapon to out snipe an Icebreaker lol. This should have been a bolt action long rifle not a sniper with a faster bolt and reload speed. Adding field scout is also a must.

The following refers to PvE only This must be buffed, it looks too badass to perform so poor. If anyone wants proof that this gun sucks here is mine. So i took my NLB with 307 attack and 'The Master' perk which is supposed to increase prec damage. Then i headshotted a level 2 red health bar vandal and hit 1058 damage So then i took my 274 attack ice breaker as vanilla as it comes with no upgrades at all. Headshotted another level 2 red health bar vandal and hit 1900 damage. Really Bungie? BTW, the NLB seems to shoot more than twice as slow as the ice breaker does with that bolt action, so one would think that it would do about twice the damage to balance it out, especially with 'The Master' perk. despite the stat card saying that the NLB and the ice breaker have the same rate of fire and damage, the NLB does nearly half as much damage as the ice breaker with HIGHER ATTACK and THE MASTER PERK at a MUCH slower rate of fire. This shows how absolutely trash this guns performance is, take into account that its a PRIMARY with NO ELEMENTAL and NO SCOPE and a serious ammo issue, i have no idea why bungie actually approved the stats on this gun before releasing the dark below. I am not going to lie, i was kind of in shock at how bad this gun is, i really expected it to be my goto sniper for boss missions. So the conclusion is simply this: CURRENTLY (one of) THE COOLEST LOOKING EXOTIC IN THE GAME IS THE WORST EXOTIC IN THE GAME. BUFF PLEASE. To fix this all bungie has to do is make the NLB at max rank(with 'the master') do nearly TRIPLE the amount of prec damage that the ice breaker does at max rank, and keep everything else the same. The whole premise of the NLB is an extremely powerful yet agonizingly slow, inconvenient sniper. The NLB does all of that EXCEPT THE EXTREMELY POWERFUL PART! All it needs is damage, and a lot of it. Thoughts?

From my stand point I am a fan of bolt action snipers, it's a shame that no land beyond is the only one out there. As no land beyond currently stands it is not primary weapon worthy. No Land Beyond becomes effective only between medium range and beyond. At long range it is a formidable and accurate weapon but it's rate of fire and magazine size means you only get one good shot. As far as sight flare is concerned, what sight does it have to give of any flare? Improvements this weapon requires are at very least more reserve ammo and either an upgrade to fire rate in its upgrade tree or as a weapon buff. And as far as bolt action snipers are concerned, they were never made for close quarter encounters. Also perhaps like the Suros Regime where aiming increases damage and slows rate of fire have no land beyond offer movement in exchange for the ability to use a manual zoom/focusing ability for longer range target acquisition attributing to its very name.

One shot chest kills are OP, just so you know. I can hit people in the head most of the way across the map with my Last Word, and end up trading with snipers with The Devil You Know. It's easy to acquire targets for one shot regardless of how bad the sights are if you get used to the weapon.

Edited by golivlife: 12/28/2014 6:01:02 AMThe NLB definitely needs a buff. Almost like the vex of snipers(ignoring the reload speed). What I want to see: Either a reload speed improvement OR massive damage buff in both PvP & PvE. Other optional sights, although the iron sight concept is cool it wasn't executed well. Perhaps a long/mid range ww2 style scope. Massive ammo increase. In particular PvE you run out of ammo extremely fast, moving the ammo total up to something like 80-90+ would be awesome. In raids or high level strikes you WILL run out of ammo, guaranteed. This MUST be fixed.
