So the founder of Mega/MegaUpload Kim Dotcom (twitter @KimDotcom) just paid LizardSquad to end the attacks on PSN and XBL.
And these punk kids made off like bandits.
They were compensated with 3,000 premium vouchers for Megas server storage service valued at 99 bucks each for a value of $297,000USD.
Each voucher entitles them to 1 years worth of storage at 500mb a pop. Puts it at 1.5 million megs, or 1,405 gigs, or 11.44 terabytes whichever you prefer.
Kim went on to add that these vouchers would be lifetime passes and would be terminated if they ever attacked the servers again.
So thats it. The gaming community is the new ransom victim. With a payout like that, whats to stop other people from using us to get paid?
And these douchers weren't even hackers. Just DDoS script kiddies with a few bitcoins each.

Skip to the bottom of the article for the update regarding this payoff.
Edit: Forgot to add: at this point services on XB1 and PS4 remain down from the aftermath as updates are performed.

If there's one type of hacker I hate, it's these little black hat script kiddies. No skill. No talent.

Edited by TunnelSnakesRule: 12/27/2014 6:22:47 AMWell that's a bunch of bullshit.
-
Jeez, so much discussion since I went to bed. Surely more and more of you are learning more about this turn of events.
-
Great. Motivation for future DDOS attacks. Until now all they could get from it is the sick pleasure of hurting business and killing joy for gamers. Now there's gain of monetary value.
-
Jamis Winston hacked Sony and microsoft, not lizard squad :p #blamejamis
-
Thank god!
-
If Kim could pay them... Couldn't the FBI find them??? I have a feeling these punks made a wrong step. They may be dead in the water.
-
Not sure if that part is true but they said they ceased attacks and wont be attacking Microsoft and Sony gaming servers any further. I'm more curious about how much they ended up having to pay Botnet Operators to conduct this attack, Although it doesn't seem to be as powerful as they gloated about weeks ago.
-
Maybe Kim is the hackers then. Self promotion and all
-
Paid off the 25 then they went back and did it again today.
-
What are they going to use those storages for? Who needs 11.7 terabytes for gods sake!? I don't think this is going to stop them. At all
-
Xbox is having issues again
-
I would rather not playing ps than compromising to them.
-
Edited by Lord of Admirals: 12/26/2014 7:28:13 PMThat was the stupidest thing that could have possibly happened... The hell would you even store on there? Seriously, If I was in Lizard Squad's place, I'd just start DDOS'ing Sony and MS again.
-
So I thought anonymous was supposed to stop lizard squad? Guess they are nothing but wind bags
-
Edited by HOLY REGIME: 12/26/2014 1:05:12 PM? They didn't ask for money or cars? They got 11T of storage... Wow Aww there even scruber than the destiny community.
-
Nobody cares about a few kids that are incapable of taking down the xbox one servers. Talk destiny or GTFO
-
Kimdotcom is not entirely trustworthy himself if you ask me. Just another way to get some publicity.
-
Not sure what happened but either way this was an ingenious way to market megaprivacy.
-
Like that's actually going to stop them...
-
Right on. They get free storage on website. So what?
-
I always imagined that whenever lizard squad puts down the servers the owners of Sony and Xbox reenact the Spider-Man scene where JJ holds up the newspaper and screams "SPIDERMAAAAAAAANNN!!!" Except the headliner is that their servers were taken down and instead of screaming Spider-Man they screamed "LIZARD SQUAAAAAD!!!"
-
They should be jailed for violation of personal property.. It's my console that I paid for being taken from me on Christmas..what a bunch of jerks!
-
This sounds ridiculous
-
Funny no one had an issue with Sony conceding to terrorists
-
I was playing destiny and using party chat on xbox1 since yesterday morning.. seems a tad bit on the retarded side to think a hacker is going to accept storage from someone as payment... couldn't they just jack there own, they are hackers after all right?
