They weren't buried in the literal sense, but it is interesting. I hypothesize the Forerunners kept the Lekgolo to perform tests on the Flood with.

is it possible the lekgolo on the ring know about the forerunners and whatever else happened 100,000 years ago? and is it possible there are more lekgolo like those guys in nightfall, but on other rings?
