You know what would be cool, to level up old low level gear to have a 30-33-36 light lvl and a reforge on abilites or new ablilites.
Why?
Most of the old gear look really cool compared to the Legendery gear.
How would you upgrade?
This can go many ways but I think that to obtain light you should add light attributes. Like Motes of Light, other gear with the desired light lvl, Glimmer and such. For example a warlocks chest piece name Axiom Coven II, can be upgraded to have more abiliteis and have light attribute of 30 with 30 Motes of Light, a warlock piece with the light attributes of 30 and Glimmer plus maybe a last upgrade node for these type of upgrades like the Exotic's level up to tier2. There would aslo be a process to upgrade the gear.
Like the Husk of The Pit, which has a single ablility note with a upgrade that evolves it into a better weapon. Only thing is you'll have the regular upgrade nodes with the final node to evlove it.
I think that if this was a feature you would be able to do you will be able to have many guardians being able to be a unique one . You'll have a guardian in your stlye. You won't have 16 guardians in the tower with the same raid gear.
On that note, this won't be a unfair way to obtain lvl 32-30 because youll first need to work/obtain a gear peice with the light attribute. So for an example a new person would have to do Vanguard/Crucible ranks to get 30/33 light armor or VoG for the 30 light armor or Crota's End for the 36 light armor.
In the end you'll be a guardian with a stlye diffrent from others and show others how much determination you put in the gear.

I wish someone from Bungie would just reply to suggestions like these. Just say "we're thinking about it" or "never gonna happen". Then we know what we can expect the coming years. It's maybe doable to get used to the meh-looking legendary armor and forget about the beautiful low level armor sets...
