Your analogy makes no sense. If you cheese crota you are using network manipulation to gain an in-game advantage. With Atheon you're not using your network to do anything other than play the game.
You are violating the terms of service for whatever console you choose to play on by participating in the crota cheese, and I personally hope each and every person who participated in it gets perma'd so they can learn.
