So this Thread clearly explains why the Networkglitch is in a whole other class than all the glitches/cheesing that did go on in the vault:

FYI: At least three persons already got banned

EDIT: For all the Naysayers that say Bungie/sony couldn`t possibly distinguish between a random and a deliberate DC.
1.Lets just assume that there is a time-window of 5 seconds around the point where Crota kneels down to dc on purpose and use the glitch.
2.Let`s further assume that on average the ServiceProviers are reachable for 90% of the time (It`s actually more like 98%, but we will be very generous)
3.Since Crota has been “beaten” more than 160.000 times and a Raidteam consists of 6 people we will say: There are at least 1 Million chances to draw a disconnect during 2 hours (an average Raid takes this time). If we take the 10% from above we can say: 100,000 disconnects happened during all successful Crotaraids up to this point.
So what is the probability that A DC happens randomly at the exact same time Crota goes down?
Calculation:
2*3600/5 = 1440:= potential 5 second-time units of one single player during a successful raid
1,440,000,000= for all players
Ergo
The probability that a DC happens randomly at the moment where crota goes down for any Player is
100,000/1,440,000,000 = 6,94e -5
And for the special case that this DC concerns the Host:
1,16e -5
For comparison:
The Probability of getting a Royal Flush in Poker: 2,57 e-5
Another Hopebubble busted by Math, sorry for that
EDIT 2: I will also link to a prominent youtuber (Datto) that has the same opinion as the vocal group of "It`s a cheat not a chesse" on this forum. Since he works closely with bungie you can be sure that in one way or the other Glitchers will soon befall a special "Destiny":

EDIT 3: This is how a big banwave looked in Halo:Reach (2010) courtesy of Bungie
Good evening,
We are in the process of applying credit resets to approximately 15,000 users who we have identified as the most egregious Challenge Reset abusers.
A one day credit earning ban has also been applied, mostly to ensure that recipients receive an in-game notification of the action taken.
As with any such measure, we have taken the time to carefully select our criteria to eliminate false positives.
A more comprehensive pass will be occurring in the coming week as our automated Banhammer mechanisms grow accurate enough to satisfy our high bar for burden of proof. If you are thinking about getting an easy 50k credits by using this exploit, I would strongly advise you to reconsider.
Thank you, and please direct any discussion of these resets to this thread.
Edit 1: a point of clarification. No bans were handed out tonight for
a) Playing too much Gruntpocalypse (no such thing!)
b) Using the target locator too much (no such thing!)
Specifically, we targeted an exploit that allowed players to complete a Challenge 20+ times via intentional network manipulation (i.e., disconnects.)
Spot checks have revealed the telltale signature of this behavior on every denier so far, so don't be fooled by the protests of innocence. We aren't.
Edit 2:
1) If you have lost your Legendary Helmet or any other downloadable offers, you can re-download them via your Download History. We're not sure this is affecting anyone (we haven't reproduced it internally), but just in case it is, give this a try.
2) We won't be resetting Commendations, as we do not feel that the exploit used affected them. It would not be fair to people who did use the exploit but who wish to retain the record of their playstyle, and we cannot differentiate between the two systematically. Sorry.

EDIT 4: Cheaters have officially gotten a Carte Blanche from a Studio that is a shadow of its former self
Bungie does not kick ass any more. I was a fool and the cheaters have taken over.
I will now make a thread to suggest to ban anyone in the future that tries to make a thread about banning someone.
Bungie clearly voted for the quick buck.
I hope they will live happily ever after with you and your kind.

Source now or get out Not the tos an actual source for your claims

I've played the raid twice (xbox broke so missed the first week) and both times done it normal; we tried to cheese him with the kneel when we were 4 manning the raid and it didn't work so we just beat it with the full team later. Is it fixed already?
-
Should they be banned? No, of course not. They aren't hurting anyone. Its just a game. So they found a glitch, it'll get fixed in a couple weeks and everything will go back to normal. If they banned everyone who pushed Atheon I bet 99% of people on this forum who completed the raid would have been banned long ago.
-
Lol, Bungie NEVER banned anyone for cheating in the Vault of Glass, what makes you think they're going to ban people for cheesing on this? They're patch it and move on.
-
Yes. Bungie should ban 90% of their player base. It would be really fair and really smart from their side.
-
Link to banned person
-
The only one needing punishment here is whoever came up with the term "Crota-kneelists" lol
-
NO because bungie hired all of us to be beta testers for the hard raid plain and simple! It seems we are doing all the work for the testers at bungie because they can't do there job, the community finds all the glitches bungie then fixes them win win situation for them.
-
So the Banhammer is already busy: Just checked on a friend of mine who was dumb enough to exploit Crota and all his Crotaraids suddenly have only 4 people showing up, meaning 2 of the party got banned.
-
Well Yes and no Yes because since it's breaking rules which been made No because banning ppl is a bit too harsh. As you still purchase a game for money etc.
-
Edited by Preemz01: 12/22/2014 10:46:25 AMI do not believe they should ban people for this unless they could do something like place a return to orbit sequence as this may lead to false bans. Like what if the host didn't purposely leave, what if he lagged out or his Internet cable disconnected. Plus I know for one that not everyone would see it as a violation but rather as a normal glitch because some casual kid/adult players play this game aswell.
-
I hope all cheesers, cheater, glitchers, and afk ass hats get banded.
-
Stop whining, let everyone play the way they wanna play
-
Tbh, in my opinion it is just easier and faster to smash Crota into the ground legit than try to get this exploit working. More fun too. But I have nothing against people choosing to cheese. We can't expect the players to abide by the rules when the game doesn't abide by them either. This game randomly screws people over in VOG with it's glitches and bugs, causing a team to wipe even when they were totally kicking Atheon's a$$. And that was the main reason people I know cheesed him, because it was easier and less frustrating than getting close to killing him then having a glitch fvck up your whole attempt. Once the game sticks to the rules, then players will be more inclined to stick to them too. Also, basing rewards purely on RNG makes people find the easiest way to do things to get rewards faster, maybe base them on effort somehow?
-
Edited by Luckdog26: 12/22/2014 10:26:04 AMI kinda think it does go a little into hacking territory. While it may not be a hack, it is clearl manipulation of the game code.
-
Do* you're welcome
-
No since the dlc is nothing but a grind and bungie keeps putting out faulty shit. Not our fault they made a broken game.
-
That's their choice. But mark my words the are -blam!-ed when it gets patched.
-
I just can't see them banning out of the blue. If they came out and said they would be implementing a ban on anyone who disconnected to cheese after the notice, then subsequently implemented the ban that would be fair enough and I would support that, as long as they fixed the Crota glitches at the same time. At the moment some people have tried to do the cheese just for a laugh / out of curiosity after they've lost a few people as they wait for some new players to join. Others have inadvertently been in a group that have done the cheese. But even with a prospective ban, they could only ban the disconnector. Imagine the trolling otherwise. I think it would be far easier / fairer to just patch it. Even if fixing it means boot to orbit if the host leaves at a specific point in that fight. Or if host disconnects during Crota don't give any loot but also don't count it as a loot drop (ie if you did it properly subsequently in the same week you would still get loot).
-
Look let the people cheese and dont get the hang of the normal mechanics. (Much more fun to do it like intented anyway) They will all get more trouble on hardmode witch i dont mind. Let them stay out. People tend to get lazy i get it. Yes bungie lets us grind bigtime. But beating crota's end as it should be doesnt even take an hour!
-
The funny part of all this is I have beat Crota both legit and using the cheese and in the end it was quicker to beat him legit because trying to cheese him takes someone disconnecting with near perfect timing. Once you get the mechanics of the Crota fight down it is not hard at all to beat him legit.
-
Then you have to ban everyone who has ever pushed the templar or theon, soloed any stage in the raid etc. This would affect 90% of the endgame userbase. Good luck with that bungie.
-
They already stealth nerfed the Crota rewards so I don't see big deal
-
Everyone i know has tried the glitch at least once. We have all beaten crota the legit way so why not make him kneel when we only can find 3 or 4 persons instead of 6? They should definately patch it before hard raid.

What I don't get is how they would even know... I mean someone could report you. They could at most check to see if you disconnected during the fight but then what? I mean what if your power went out, Internet out, cat turned it off, etc. regardless if they should get banned or not idk how bungie would know. Regardless I'm not gunna risk it
