I picked up Outlast a couple days ago while it was on sale and tonight seemed like the perfect time to play it.

  • Eh it's only scary at the perfect time to be scary and even then it lacks the tension that FNAF has because it's fairly predictable. I've played around 2 hours of it and there were a couple of times where I would say "que jump scare" and then be like "ok umm yeah so scary". The cutscenes however are reminiscent of a thriller than a horror film but they are enjoyable (muh fingers nooo you bastard I hate you now. I want to kill you now but this game probably won't let me gaaaah I want a gun. Why didn't I take the soldiers gun at the beginning he was dying on pike. Surely he had a pistol on him gaaaaah this game has doesn't let me interact with anything that would make my character seem smart). Overall I'm enjoying it but I'm glad I didn't spend $20 on it.

Yeah, it isn't the same sort of scary as other games. Like you said, it is more of a thriller type game, with the fear based around the primal flight or flight response, not so much monsters in the dark. And I'm sad you aren't enjoying it as much as I did. But I'm the sort of guy that jumps head-first into immersion, so.... XD

  • I'm gona add this to the watch later. Reason being after I see it the first time it no longer becomes scary because I know exactly what's going to happen

  • Yeah man I'd be careful with it because it shows the ending, be sure to come back because his reactions are hilarious. That's the hardest game to get like desensitized to though, I was playing that with every light in house on.

  • I don't know, I just wasn't getting scared with the lights on so I had to turn them off and throw on some headphones. It was working for a while but I guess that I'm just too tired to really be immersed at the moment so I'm going to hang this up until tomorrow night.

  • I figured the headphones would have done the trick if nothing else, but yeah moods gotta be just right to get a good experience
