As you already know, bungies original plan was for the forerunners to be human. However, they eventually changed their minds and made them an entirely different species. Because of this antagonists in the original trilogy (especially guilty spark) make references to humanity being forerunners. My question is, are quotes like these still considered valid from a lore stand point? What bullshit did 343 come up with to fix bungies mistake?
"You are the child of my Makers. Inheritor of all they left behind. You are Forerunner! But this ring... is mine!"
"I? I am a monument to all your sins."
My question is, are quotes like these still considered valid from a lore stand point?
Yup!
What bullshit did 343 come up with to fix bungies mistake?
Wouldn't call it bullshit considering Bungie changed their minds after 6 years of lore pointing at humans being Forerunners.
"You are the child of my Makers. Inheritor of all they left behind. You are Forerunner! But this ring... is mine!"
The first two statements can easily be equated to him referring to John's Reclaimer status. For the final one, the key thing to note is that 'Forerunner' is not the name of their species. It's a title they've given themselves. So Spark calling John a Forerunner, is probably him saying you have the same status and authority as a Forerunner.
"I? I am a monument to all your sins."
This one is a lot easier. I actually never equated this to be specifically for the Forerunners. The Flood are the embodiment of suffering. Their final dictum before Halo was fired was that all life shall be punished, and crushed in the folds so that no species may ever rise up against the Precursors again.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Edited by Lord of Admirals: 12/22/2014 9:49:46 PMYeah. They've got a species name translated into Latin, but again, don't think its their actual name, because when you translate it into English you get "First Born". Actually... It might be their actual name. Seems to have to do with their creation by the Precursors. Anyway, here it is in Latin: PRIMORIS PROGNATUS
