A friend and I were goofing off in the tower, right, and I thought to myself--ok, dancing is no way to express laughter. And neither is pointing, waving, or sitting down. A crazy person would do that!
Then it hit me--I would like to see more actions, emotions, gestures, etc added to that boring ol' d-pad!
Imagine being able to actually emote laughter. Or surprise. Or dread.
Anyway, the way I envision it goes a bit like this:
A vendor in the tower could either be new or an existing one that could offer a variety of gestures/emotions/whatever to choose from. They could be for purchase or simply be free to swap out, and they would replace an existing button on the d-pad. This allows for customization and tailors to your personality.
I think this could be implemented along with another thing lots of us are interested in--a beautician of some sort that could offer an appearance change. Maybe you want to change the light color. Or maybe you'd like to transform completely and change the race.
All of this could be achieved with one vendor.
So. Your thoughts please!

I'd rather have the gestures just give your character a cardboard sign (like a hitchhiker) saying things like... Up: Need vault space and Vault of glass team Right: Lone survivor of Crota... Need team for revenge Left: Will work for coins (weekly strike) Down: I've got a yearning for a burning (nightfall)

What of they made a ghost function and switch between combat and recreation on dpad so both parties are happy

Edited by Al Simmons67: 12/18/2014 2:07:15 PMScrew that noise. Emotions for the D-Pad is such a waste of a button on the controller! We don't want more emotional options, we want to be able to activate a heavy synth or change between two primaries, secondaries, and heavies! Let the D-pad help during a fire fight, not give us more useless actions that have zero bearing on success of a mission. It's so annoying that I have to run and hide to change from sniper to shotgun, AR to Hand Cannon, or LMG to Rocket Launcher. Make that 'ol D-pad useful and make them swappable hot keys!

Who laughs, or sits, or dances during an all out war.... D-pad or even swipes on the touch pad needs to be used as hotkeys for consumables or weapon swaps... nothing worse than bein in mid fight almost downing a boss and have to risk all progress cause you need to find a safe spot .... wait for inventory screen to load .... find your damn synthesis because everything you acquire is just all over the place since you CANT drag and drop to organize shit .... then hold square for 10seconds because the game just wants to make sure you kno wtf your doing by using the synthesis(really its a fking synthesis, if I accidently use one its OK!) .... just to unpause and get smashed by knights and lose all progression --- fking genius with the emotes bungie .. fking genius

The only half useful gesture is the point, and I have yet to see anyone use it for anything useful other than farming purposes. They mean shit in battle. Even if you are trying to explain a part of a raid, or anything, chances are you are just going to shoot at the spot with your weapon instead of pointing at it. The D pad needs to be used for synth or weapon swaps period, this game is way to good in the FPS element to handi-cap the D pad with sitting and dancing for Christ sakes. Who thinks of this stupid shit? Leave the gestures for the tower when u don't need to use synth or weapons at all.

Yes to everything in this post. Would be amazing.
-
Sounds good but add some actual use in battle for dpad like switching though weapons on the fly.
-
I don't think a vendor is even necessary. We should just be able to assign gestures to d-pad buttons from the options menu.
-
We could even double the amount of emotes one could express by double tapping one of the directions
-
More dances would be cool bit I also think a combat d pad would be cool for ammo but I think switching weapons wouldent make much sense
-
Bungie added a new gesture in the TDB expansion, and it looks suspiciously like an erect middle finger! I jest, seriously though, it can be hard enough coordinating a firefight with microphones active, I doubt gestures would be of much use. Perhaps a system that allowed the user to select an area, choke point or an objective would be of more use?
-
You don't point at people when they say something funny? That's all I do. No laughing. I just point.
-
Agreed but there was a post I saw were the guy had the d pad with more functions. You would press up for the up options and down for the down options. It would be simple, kind of like what mass effect did.
-
Or perhaps instead of doing useless shit, the d-pad could turn on your flashlight at will? Or swap builds with a single button push? Or use synth so you don't have to dick around in menus during a raid?
-
I think they should have a ton gestures like darksouls. Just pressing down on the dpad would bring up the gesture window and then you can select them from there. It doesn't take long anyone who played darksouls could back me up.
-
I remember in fable 2 you had tons of gestures. Why only 4 now? We have the technology!
-
Like double tap the left D- pad for laugh. Double tap up for a come over here hand signal. And so on idk
-
How about assigning ammo refills and subclass changes to the directional pad. That could be a game changer. Any function for the D-pad in battle would be a help. Still don't understand why you can't program ALL the button functions on the controller for ANY game, for that matter, but that's another issue...
-
Good start.
-
They should have a facepalm gesture for when stupid shit happens
-
-
I want the ability to flip someone off so if I hear Bungie employees are in the crucible I will be able to greet them properly
-
Screw emotions how about using the d-pad for turning on the ghosts light or a night vision mode for a stealthier run or some other class related perks.

I think there is! Deej was interviewed recently and said there would be new ways to interact with each other soon
