As a person that's found themselves addicted to this game from day one I've been on a never ending quest to get better gear and upgrade said gear to its maximum potential. I play way too much, usually spending several hours a day grinding out new gear and raiding to acquire new stuff or upgrade materials. I got to 30 on all of my characters a bit before the DLC and was looking forward to seeing all of my hard work rewarded when it dropped. Instead I feel betrayed and I'm not sure I want to play anymore. My gear was immediately worthless (In comparison to the vanguard gear) and all of my time preparing for the DLC wasted. In my opinion, it almost took too long to acquire and level the gear in Destiny before the DLC. Now with the new radiant upgrade system and the vanguard commendations it feels like Bungie is just throwing up walls to slow the communities progress.
I know people stopped playing because they reached 30 and got bored early but making it harder isn't going to lure those people back in and it certainly isn't going to encourage its loyal players to continue. And how is the new generous loot table in Crota's End suppose to be awesome if we don't have the materials to upgrade stuff? I was going to collect different variations of armor for each character and now I'll probably be forced to break it down in the hopes that I can level up at least one piece. If anything, there should be a crazy amount of upgrade materials that drop in the raid, like 7 or 8 at a time so you could at least upgrade one piece all the way.
The best solution however is for Bungie to tuck their tails and remove Radiant materials altogether or at least include some way to convert ascendant shards to radiant like a 2-3:1. It certainly would keep the Vault of Glass relevant if I knew playing it every week would actually benefit me because I already have everything it could give me. The game was fine before even though it was light on content Bungie, quit screwing with it. You're alienating your biggest fans.
P.S. What's with the level 30 raid? I thought it was suppose to be a level 28 then 32 for hard. Should have done it that way. Then you wouldn't have had to make the vanguard armor more powerful than the VOG stuff I spent so long getting ready. Maybe ask us first next time before you go and do something stupid like this again.
