Suddenly, months ago at Bungie:
"We've developed a cool intricate questline unlike almost anything we've done before for storytelling in this game for the Dark Below. It includes adding special triggered events to our popular open exploration mode and a totally new mission with a frantic sword massacre at the end!
"Oh, and unrelated, we also designed this super cool gun that starts off as a common model, but which you can upgrade into perhaps the best auto rifle in the game!"
"Anyway, we've got these nice and useless vendor-level gloves we're planning to give as the quest reward. I guess we also need some way to give the upgradeable gun, I guess we'll go with a super rare drop on a really rare enemy. Who's up for lunch?"

The expansion has been out one week.. How impatient are you, the problem is people expect everything they want straight away. Feel lucky it's now something else to work towards and give you something else to play for.
