I was using the sword v gatekeepers in CE. I would either press R1 repeatedly or do R1, R1, R2. . I was using a TITAN Defender with very low agility.
What happens is that the first 2 hits land and then there is a pause before the 3rd strike. This gave a window where the gatekeeper could kill me. Basically it meant I got him half the time.
However, I watched other team mates (warlocks and hunters) do it and they have no pause, so just bash the buttons and they kill him.
I also noticed using the sword on earth (not sure if mechanics are the same) with my Warlock and Hunter they have a different swing pattern and no pause.
Is it my class or set up? Will changing to agility based build help? Or do I need to do it differently (like push the stick in a direction also).
It is hard to practice as I only RAID twice a week and don;t want to learn on the job and cause wipes too much.
Thanks

You can do one of these 1) Max out your agility = faster hits 2) Use the combo (melee, melee, shot) to stun the gatekeeper 3) Stun the gatekeeper with your flashbang 4) Drop the sword on the other side and let someone who is better with it do the job 5) Level up to 31 and you only need 2 hits for him

Best use of sword is like halo sword cancel. RT then RB right away will do the dmg but cancel some of the animation which means you can stun lock gatekeepers without them taking a swing. Just alternate those buttons quick enough.

I have been told that if you have gear with the "increase melee attack speed" perk, it helps with maximizing sword swings. I have yet to test this in all the time that I have run with he sword.

Affected yes as far as I've seen, but the raid boots boost movement speed with the sword
