Huh...In the crystal room you mean? I will have to check this out tonight. I doubt it leads to extra loot, but it may lead to a better way to defeat crota.

Maybe it's like a marker to check if you can get the next loot or not, for example if not everyone on your team killed a gatekeeper on the bridge sequence than they spawn there to tell you haha you can't get it, or if you don't see them then you can proceed to try for the next secret or vice versa. Just my two cents.
