I totally agree, there's only so much that can be added to the game. And yes, I understand about how the monthly fee would allow for more/varied content. I hate that I agree, but I agree. And I think there's probably a ton of factors that decided the game we currently have, everything from greed to disparity between old/new gen consoles to Bungie entering new territory regarding MMO/RPG mechanics, and a whole lot more.
I guess my main disappointment, and the thing that I think Bungie really failed at, was taking this FPS/MMO/RPG genre they tried to create and making it uniquely their own. They did a fantastic job with the engine and the artwork. But (and I'm not sure why) it's like they put in zero creative effort on anything except the raids. There's a lot of bog-standard MMO and RPG type stuff, but it's essentially grinding for the sake of grinding, which we've seen a hundred times before in other games.
That said, they are getting better. But I want them to make the immersive world that I care deeply about that they so often mentioned pre-launch. I really really want to give a shit about my character and the universe he lives in, not just in how much gear drops how often.
//but hey, maybe that's just me.
