That's not his point. And your buffet analogy doesn't work in this particular sense. His point was that just because he spent X amount of time playing the game, it doesn't mean that it was WELL WORTH his time to do so. Because I feel the same way. I love the game and its mechanics. Both raids are some of the most fun I've ever had in a video game. But to get to the most fun parts, you have to be a high enough level so you don't get shit on every time you enter the raid. And in order to do so, you have to get the marks, the rep, or get lucky with RNG/engrams. That was the premise for entering the VoG. Even at this point, you were grinding the same strikes and bounties.
Next, if RNG wasn't kind to you once you completed the normal raid, you were forced to run it again if you wanted to reach level 30 (which everyone wants to do). So you run it again and again until you get your armor, Then, X amount of hours later, you get it and then you must grind once more to max that armor out. Not to mention all your favourite weapons, exotics, etc by doing the same bounties over and over again.
Do you see where I'm going with this? I want to play to the fun parts of the game, the challenging parts. To do this, I have to grind out my gear to a point where I can still stand a chance. There is no fun to be had when you're constantly dying. I wouldn't have a problem grinding hours upon hours if there was more content in the game, i.e. more bounties, strikes, missions. So that 150 hours you see on his profile? Yeah, that's where his time went. The Dark Below "DLC" for $20? Sure, I'll give it a shot. But it turns out, they didn't add enough. Sure, there are a few more bounties from Eris, and a few new missions, and 1 strike (2 if you're on playstation), but it isn't enough because it's apparent that they can all be completed within 2 hours.
TL;DR
We like/love the game, we just don't like grinding in it due to lack of content, but are forced to grind in it anyways to do the fun parts.

Brilliant summary!

I don't think that is actually his point. This is supposed to be a MMO hybrid. Even if there were 100 additional story missions you would still have to do the raid multiple times to acquire a full set of gear. That is actually an intentional design choice on the part of the developers, and has nothing to do with the amount of content. I will point out that even though you mention the same bounties as a negative you don't seem to think that additional bounties are a positive. Not to mention that Eris today just unveiled a new "mission" with one of her quests. We honestly have no idea how much content she is going to be able to dish out over the next 2 months.
