What was your method of stopping?
[spoiler]
Honestly, I'm asking this because I've wanted to quit chewing tobacco for a while, and I just don't know how I'm going to do it. I told myself I wasn't addicted until I tried stopping for the first time. It completely derailed me until I continued. That was about 3 years ago and I'm still packing. I started about 5 years ago, and while that doesn't sound like much, it's quite the toll on my wallet and dental health. My teeth just don't feel the same anymore. I can't sleep if I don't have a lip before bed. I don't mean for this to be a sob story, or attention whoring, I'm just seeking advice. Thank you.

The song is rap by the way, so if you detest the genre, don't click on it.

I went from two packs a day to smoking an e-cig. I feel much better. Now I'm just slowly lowering the level of incite in in the juice.

I quit chewing tobacco after about 7 years recently. I kept my mind occupied and chewed lots of gum/shredded jerky. To ween my way, I started doing pouches and eventually snus. Decreasing from about 3 pouches to 2 and eventually to one a day. Now, I have an occasional snus (maybe 1 a month?)

If it's chewing tobacco I'd recommend gum, and a nicotine patch. Gum helps the oral fixation and the nicotine patch can help control and gradually lower your nicotine intake

I have, granted it was only from a 2 year addiction to smoking. The real trick is just getting your mind over the hardest part. The physical withdraws can be tough, but it's the cravings you'll find the worst. But you can do it. You can, it just takes time, and constant trial and error.
-
I've quit alcohol. Cannabis helps break addictions and eases withdrawals. Also, cannabis is not physically addictive so it's very easy to stop. Even if you don't, it's good for you so it doesn't matter.

For cigarettes, use toothpicks. For chew, use gum. Worked for me

Any advice Cam gives you, ignore it completely.

I stopped enjoying the taste. It was never about nicotine lol

Stopping the addiction is the easy part it's changing ur lifestyle that's hard. I stopped smoking for 4 months never craved one ever. But.... I realised I was bored to death. No reason to leave desk at work, nothing to do whilst de icing the car, nothing to look forward to after a meal... So started again if that's the low of a non smoker I don't want it. Least a smoker has something to look forward to do and enjoy

Government logic- smoking is bad lets guilt you to death But smoke weed

Vape pen. Not cheap gas station ones.. legit one from a vape shop. Have not smokes since
-
I did, smoked for a little over three years. Was up to a pack a day of Marlboro reds. Quit cold turkey. It was the only way that worked for me. The support of my wife was the biggest factor in helping quit, though

What brand?
-
I used to smoke about a half a pack a day, from there I switched I E-cigs and smoked those for about 2 months starting with the high strength nicotine then going to the medium then the low. After that I went to the ones with no nicotine for a few days and then was able to stop with no bad side effects. Every now and then I get a craving to smoke, like when I'm at a bar or before I go into the movies but its really not that bad. I don't have that much knowledge about dip but maybe there is a way to ween yourself off of it like I did with smoking. Good luck.

Titration (gradual reduction of the dosage) is one of the most reliable ways to reduce and then eliminate a dependency. The liquids used in vaping have specific concentrations of nicotine and can be gradually reduced over time down to zero nicotine. Then, quitting the vaping (since all you are "hooked on" is the hand-to-mouth and inhale/exhale experience) is far easier.

i smoke cigarettes off and on. i wouldnt say i am addicted because every now and then i like the pick me up it gives. moderation is key i usually have to throw out a pack before i finish it because it goes bad sitting in my car. for chewing try mixing the herbal chew in with regular tobacco to slowly drop the dosage of nicotine until you are on pure herbal chew. then try gum or beef jerky to keep your mind off of it when you get cravings the chemical dependency has side effects that cant be avoided completely so stay strong!

Good luck! I've been very lucky with addiction and doubt I'd have the discipline to quit nicotine had it's addictive properties grabbed me. Genuinely I think you should do it, quit, and report back. I know the figs here will support you.

It's soooooo hard to do, man. Especially when I live with 3 lads who all smoke too.
-
this is what i did. i had made multiple attempts at quitting in the past at this point. i had a note pad on my pc where id keep track of what i smoked. i usually had about 3 an hour. i gradually cut it down week by week until i got it to half a cig every hour. at that point i could actually go an entire shift at work without a cig. i found the most successful attempts were when i found a reason to just crush the absolute shit out of that pack and rage about quitting, and find a reason for quitting that i couldn't bullshit out of (ie family/friends have asthma, bad example, cancer) and cold turkey from there. when you cold turkey with a shit load of rage and instilled coping methods youll get it done if you want it.

I just wanted to one day. And that was that...

Edited by pastafarian : 12/10/2014 10:00:59 PMI've quit smoking for long periods of time before By setting goals like once I start working out again I'll quit smoking. Of course I stopped doing that since I starting smoking again couple months back and I work out so lel. What my friend did to cut down though was start e cigs there basically like nicotine gum it won't help you quit but it'll stop the craving and it's a better alternative especially compared to dip that shit gives you cancer faster than smoking.

Edited by Master Chief: 12/10/2014 9:59:20 PMI know a guy who just quit cold turkey and after about a month, he was off it

Edited by Rifter7: 12/10/2014 9:56:47 PMi used to use chewing tobacco for about a year or two in college and smoked since grade 8. i quit 2 years ago. what can you ask me that you don't know already, man? you just need to make a plan and act on it. theres no corner to stand in and throw solar grenades, you need to -blam!-ing do it.
