- Bungie Community - How do you enter the video gaming industry? Like many veterans, I joined the military right out of high school in 2005. I had no intention of killing but rather helping so I became a combat medic. During my medical training at Fort Sam Houston I was offered a slot to attend Airborne training in Fort Bragg. I took the slot and completed my Airborne training and was assigned to the 1/91 Airborne Cavalry with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Schweinfurt, Germany. My unit deployed twice to Afghanistan and during my deployments I dreamed about working in the video gaming industry but it was always that, a dream, I had no idea how to pursue it. My second tour in Afghanistan ended in Nov 2010, I signed my discharge papers Dec 2010 and started studying at my local community college in Jan 2011. I was confused with civilian life and chose to study nutrition because it was a way to use my medical training in a non-traumatic field. (I grew tired of seeing children blown up). Now, I will graduate in May 2015 from Colorado State University with a bachelors of science in dietetics and have no doubt I will find work but I want something more. My time in the military taught me a lot, to include: working as a team, how to follow orders, how to give orders, how to make and keep deadlines, how to treat traumatic injuries and how to be a soldier. Now, I'm a civilian and think about going back into the military as an officer but after watching a documentary covering World of Warcraft and playing countless hours in Destiny the dream crept back into mind, is there a way to work in the industry that I love? Are there any developers out there with advice? Should I give up on my dream and work in a hospital helping individuals on dialysis or pursue corporate wellness in the gaming industry or try and become a video gaming producer (dream)?
