What are materials for now?
I used to spend collecting materials and trading them in with Roni for Vanguard marks. But that option is no longer therre. Instead he/she takes your vanguard marks and gives you more materials. But what use are they now? Are they just for upgrading weapons?

Actually farming materials is far more efficient than buying them from a vendor and marks are better saved for gear. The material vendors just make it easier for those with no patience or time to farm.
