Ward of Dawn is purely defensive other than its ability to blind enemies whom enter it when the Helm of Saint 14 is equipped. I also theorized that Rasputin sacrificed the majority of human life in order to fend off the Darkness but doing so to generate light to be utilized as a weapon is a very sound theory.
