I'm sure we've all experienced it before, people simply standing at the start of a strike and going AFK, leaving everything up to the other two people or even a single person.
Its frustrating to say the least, but what solutions do you think could be implemented?
I feel some sort of "loot by kill" system would need to be implemented, not saying the more kills the better the loot, but if they do not lift their weight and aren't clearing at least 20% of the mobs, dealing at least 20% of total strike damage or present during ALL darkness zones then maybe that should reflect on loot possibility/mark/reputation rewards.
This would encourage people to actually clear areas of a strike instead of running past and also stop strike sitters. The only downside to this I can see is the disadvantage it would give a level 24 compared to a level 30.
It would also eliminate people coming in late and receiving rewards that a lot of the time are undeserved (although this generally doesn't bother me) as they didn't choose to drop into the strike towards the end.
Any other ideas? It's obviously an ongoing issue.
*EDIT*
Would just like to say thanks for all the constructive responses, I've tried to keep up with it all but it can be hard at time between lunch breaks at work on mobile.
Out of all the ideas I've read, compared and thought about (to make work go faster) I've listed a few that could almost work based on feedback and some initial ideas I've come up with thanks to those who have posted.
Although splattering strike sitters into oblivion with your sparrow is satisfying, it's not really a full fix, so:
1•Change the bounty from "Complete any strike without dying" to something along the lines of "Complete any strike without dying and inflicting 25% or more of the total damage throughout the strike" (something along those lines).
2•From the moment a player enters a darkness zone, other members of the strike have 3-5 minutes to also enter the same darkness zone, failure to do so will result in getting booted to orbit. I understand many people rush past a majority of monsters to speed up the raid but if you are present, surely this is enough time to catch up.
3•All players must be present during the boss fight to receive rewards and bounties, whilst also inflicting at least 5-10% of the damage to boss/enemies within the boss zone/room
4•A vote kick option that becomes available once a player is inactive for 5 minutes or more. I feel this would work but nudging the controller would remove inactivity detection, so I would propose this option becomes available if they don't enter the current darkness zone within 3-5 minutes.
5•A report inactive option that becomes available under the same circumstances as mentioned above, instead of simply kicking them to orbit, make it add up so that if the same player is reported 2 times within the hour they are unable to do any vanguard strikes for a certain amount of time.
Keep them coming, I will attempt to read and be as involved as possible. Although nothing will probably come of it anytime soon it's nice to have some ideas out there that might be viable.
Plus it's keeping my mind busy at work. :)

Auto pull them to the darkness zone. Boot to orbit if AFK longer than 5m
-
Some sort of system where once the new area is entered (like darkness zone) the other players have a set amount of time to enter the area before they are disconnected from your fireteam.
-
Maybe if the report system did anything
-
Leave the strike, re-queue another one. It literally takes 30 seconds. the AFKer comes back, and gets 0 loot. It's not anymore complicated than that.
-
If you idle for too long you get auto-kicked to orbit.
-
What I think should happen is if you are reported by 3 people for idling you should be temporarily banned from strikes. I chose 3 because you and your friend could just ban a random but with 3 it takes someone not involved
-
Or just move around for about 10 min then stop take a shit or something then wait until he's booted then do the strike then invite someone prob solved

I was doing the "complete strike without dying" bounty once, and one of our group members just rode around on his sparrow the whole time avoiding participation. I assume he was doing the same bounty. I didn't care too much, but as we were headed to Sepiks Prime I pointed at him, and so he slammed into me with his sparrow from behind, which killed me. So not only did he not participate, but to add insult to injury, he was able to kill me with with his sparrow. Kinda lame that game mechanics allow that, and that I have no recourse whatsoever. I looked at the strike stats later, and saw that the other guy who was in the strike (who was actually helping) must have left, but the jerk on his sparrow simply waited until two new people were thrown into the strike to complete it for him. I'm not sure what Bungie could do, honestly. Perhaps allow a strike rating system based on kills/assists over time so that people like that get grouped together.
-
I usually push them with my Sparrow off a cliff or towards enemies to kill them.
-
Anybody that i come across that just sits there i give them a couple mins just to see if they when AFK while it was looking for a group if they dont come back i kill them with the sparrow and then they just quit after.
-
if you do loot by kill, who will kill the fallen devil walker instead of killing all the mobs?

Edited by Wargig: 12/8/2014 2:14:12 AMLast boss tag system. Simlpe your guns code needs to jizz code bullets on the boss for a rusty pirate tag that says yes i blew my load and im not afk fapping to mic voices.

I had two folks quit on Phogoth strike today and I was like this is so easy, I just sole'd it. I got 4 blue engrams and 31 points toward my faction upgrade. Didn't bother me, but I do hear you it happens a lot and I see it more and more.
-
Kicked due to inactivity time on a strike should seriously be like 45 seconds. If you aren't moving or haven't landed a shot in 45 seconds you are replaced. If you need to be replaced the. You're locked out of strikes for a half hour. Just enough time to put a kink in the plan to do nothing while everyone else carries them

There other day i went to make myself some yummy noodles and come back sitting at the start of nexus mind strike, I thought I actually left the playlist aw dude I felt so bad that I ran all the way to the boss and he was half health I'd never do that for a couple of blue engrams my gamer tag is that same as my name on here! Sorry to the dudes who did that strike!!

remove match making, you dont see sitters in the raid.....

Edited by LegionFrWeRMany: 12/8/2014 3:38:05 AMWhy not just have the rewards drop from the boss rather than the after action report? Surely this would b straightforward to implement and while it wouldn't stop people who hang back to complete "...without dying" tasks it would at least put an end to afk'ers. As far as I am aware you have to be within a certain proximity when an enemy dies for it to drop anything for you so someone sitting at the start of the strike couldn't just collect their engrams from the postmaster. Marks could be awarded in the same way as glimmer drops (silken codex etc) that you then turn in to the vanguard (or -heres a great idea- your faction rep so you don't have to do pvp to buy faction gear) If I'm missing something I'd be happy to hear it but this seems the easiest solution to me.

Add it as a report option. Bungie can look on the servers to see said person's kills and activity in the strike and if it's a true report the person gets banned from strikes permanently. Give no quarter, if people want to be blatantly ignorant they deserve to have the book thrown at them.

I say loot by kill is a good idea

I just experienced my first real strike sitters and I've run a lot. Was on the tank boss. Had it about ⅔ down and realized the other 2 were hiding. Started pushing one and he ran and actually attacked the tank for a second and died, then never rezed. Took a couple minutes of shoving, but got the other one in the open and hailed the tank who proceeded to reset our progress. One immediately quit, I left with the other afk still. Hopefully one was working on a complete x without dying bounty lol. Honestly though, it is what it is. Most people aren't dicks.
-
I actually had another 30 hide while I did everything the other day, seems anyone is capable of doing it
-
Could just do certain distance away or if progressed to the next "zone" of the strike they don't get credit.
-
If u don't enter the darkness in a certain time u get kicked or have a vote to kick system but that could be abused
-
Just reinstate the Treasure Cave and watch them disappear. All of them. RNG was a really dumb idea for this game. Might as well just say -blam!- it. Shoot in cave.
-
Just run them over with a sparrow and watch them die and rage quit.
-
I had 2 who tried to freeload today. I just sat down and refused to go to the next area without them. They soon got the message, finished the strike with me and promptly left once if finished. I found out they were in a party together too.
