I'm sure we've all experienced it before, people simply standing at the start of a strike and going AFK, leaving everything up to the other two people or even a single person.
Its frustrating to say the least, but what solutions do you think could be implemented?
I feel some sort of "loot by kill" system would need to be implemented, not saying the more kills the better the loot, but if they do not lift their weight and aren't clearing at least 20% of the mobs, dealing at least 20% of total strike damage or present during ALL darkness zones then maybe that should reflect on loot possibility/mark/reputation rewards.
This would encourage people to actually clear areas of a strike instead of running past and also stop strike sitters. The only downside to this I can see is the disadvantage it would give a level 24 compared to a level 30.
It would also eliminate people coming in late and receiving rewards that a lot of the time are undeserved (although this generally doesn't bother me) as they didn't choose to drop into the strike towards the end.
Any other ideas? It's obviously an ongoing issue.
*EDIT*
Would just like to say thanks for all the constructive responses, I've tried to keep up with it all but it can be hard at time between lunch breaks at work on mobile.
Out of all the ideas I've read, compared and thought about (to make work go faster) I've listed a few that could almost work based on feedback and some initial ideas I've come up with thanks to those who have posted.
Although splattering strike sitters into oblivion with your sparrow is satisfying, it's not really a full fix, so:
1•Change the bounty from "Complete any strike without dying" to something along the lines of "Complete any strike without dying and inflicting 25% or more of the total damage throughout the strike" (something along those lines).
2•From the moment a player enters a darkness zone, other members of the strike have 3-5 minutes to also enter the same darkness zone, failure to do so will result in getting booted to orbit. I understand many people rush past a majority of monsters to speed up the raid but if you are present, surely this is enough time to catch up.
3•All players must be present during the boss fight to receive rewards and bounties, whilst also inflicting at least 5-10% of the damage to boss/enemies within the boss zone/room
4•A vote kick option that becomes available once a player is inactive for 5 minutes or more. I feel this would work but nudging the controller would remove inactivity detection, so I would propose this option becomes available if they don't enter the current darkness zone within 3-5 minutes.
5•A report inactive option that becomes available under the same circumstances as mentioned above, instead of simply kicking them to orbit, make it add up so that if the same player is reported 2 times within the hour they are unable to do any vanguard strikes for a certain amount of time.
Keep them coming, I will attempt to read and be as involved as possible. Although nothing will probably come of it anytime soon it's nice to have some ideas out there that might be viable.
Plus it's keeping my mind busy at work. :)

Yea so complaining and finish the strike. So what you have a sitter just chilling at spawn. What you can handle a level 24 strike by your self? There been times ive carried people who are afk through 12 to 14 different tiger strikes and get exactly what im getting blue engrams. Idc any more there lost. Considering i show fellow guardians who actually play the strike with me where dead ghost are and golden chest in case they havent collected them. So stop the whining and do the strike. If they get a exotic or legendary good for them. Loot system is random. This has been proofed ALOT.

Invite them to fireteam and a party then boot them. Straight to orbit with them!
-
Orbit seems to work.
-
Make them required to deal at least 1 point of damage against the final boss. I rarely see people wipe in a strike anymore so it would mean that if they wanted any rewards they would at least have to physically move through the entire strike . At that point they may as well just play it anyway. Also this would mean that people who join in progress are not penalized in any way (If you want them so stay then you realize this is a good idea) and unlike some of the other suggestions where you need a certain number of kills in each zone if one person just demolishes the enemy his teammates aren't penalized for it.
-
If you are not in the same checkpoint at completion, you get nothing maybe?
-
I think there's always going to be people trying to be lazy about it. You can't boot them cause the system wouldn't make sense. The game identifies when someone is afk, but if they move around then they will be fine. Based on kills? That may also be unfair. What if someone has a Gjallarhorn for the boss while the other takes care of the adds? So since that's the strategy they choose then one guy suffers because he uses Gjallarhorn for a single enemy, the boss. You want a real solution? Get some friends to run with.
-
What if they don't clear a certain checkpoint by a certain time example: Team is fighting devil walker on sepiks strike, Mr Afk hasn't made it to that area within 3 minutes of completing the refinery area. He gets kicked for no participation. Also maybe implement a sit out penalty like if he gets kicked for no participation he can't rejoin any strikes for 30 minutes. The more penalties that accrue the longer the penalties become!
-
But this adversely affects those that get matchmade into the group towards the end. Why punish them, not their fault match making was trying to help an incomplete team..
-
Open checkpoints only when all players are near to it, like opening atheons room
-
A sparrow and a wall.
-
People don't choose to be put in at the end. It is the matchmaking, if they put forth effort in the boss fight they deserve shot at loot. I had a 2 people pop into nexus as I was fighting boss. We killed it and one of them got a MIDA. I was disappointed that it wasn't me, but did hold any ill will toward the player. He didn't choose to be dropped into boss fight.
-
Just backtrack and report them for inactivity
-
Being kicked after five minutes of inactivity is ok.
-
If you guys cant handle strike matchmaking then you definitely shouldn't have raid matchmaking

Edited by Toxic waffle: 12/8/2014 2:34:57 AMWhen one person enters the darkness zone, the rest of the people have up to 3 minutes to get in and help or they'll be kicked to orbit.
-
They should just do something like the shrieker spawn in the hellmouth, spend to long in that starter spot and a -blam!-ing massive mob will spawn and go to town on you!
-
Best solution for me is to open up a solo option for strikes. I would rather do it alone than with leeches and speed runners personally and I prefer playing the game alone anyway although I have a small group of great people I run with. Unfortunately there's no options for getting high level gear (30) solo so raid crews are necessary but I agree they can be annoying and it should be addressed.
-
I use my sparrow to push them into/off of things
-
Should be if you dont make it to the final area you dont get any xp drops etc.
-
If they don't enter the restricted respsawn area within 30 seconds of the 1st players entry...automatic kick
-
Update the bounty. "Complete any strike without dying whilst also getting 20%of total kills".
-
Had a guy tonight go afk in a strike. My friend and i backtracked most of the strike simply to hit this guy with a sparrow and kill him. Time well spent.
-
a vote to kick option should have been available at launch. anyone who's played their share of MMOs knows what I'm talking about and why it is needed. yeah some people will get kicked for no apparent reason, but the people who get kicked for doing stupid stuff and who go AFK will far exceed the innocents that get kicked.
-
Sooner or later you'll be able to complete the strikes without any help and it won't be a problem.
-
Make them stand? :>
