solution to strike "sitters"?

I'm sure we've all experienced it before, people simply standing at the start of a strike and going AFK, leaving everything up to the other two people or even a single person. Its frustrating to say the least, but what solutions do you think could be implemented? I feel some sort of "loot by kill" system would need to be implemented, not saying the more kills the better the loot, but if they do not lift their weight and aren't clearing at least 20% of the mobs, dealing at least 20% of total strike damage or present during ALL darkness zones then maybe that should reflect on loot possibility/mark/reputation rewards. This would encourage people to actually clear areas of a strike instead of running past and also stop strike sitters. The only downside to this I can see is the disadvantage it would give a level 24 compared to a level 30. It would also eliminate people coming in late and receiving rewards that a lot of the time are undeserved (although this generally doesn't bother me) as they didn't choose to drop into the strike towards the end. Any other ideas? It's obviously an ongoing issue. *EDIT* Would just like to say thanks for all the constructive responses, I've tried to keep up with it all but it can be hard at time between lunch breaks at work on mobile. Out of all the ideas I've read, compared and thought about (to make work go faster) I've listed a few that could almost work based on feedback and some initial ideas I've come up with thanks to those who have posted. Although splattering strike sitters into oblivion with your sparrow is satisfying, it's not really a full fix, so: 1•Change the bounty from "Complete any strike without dying" to something along the lines of "Complete any strike without dying and inflicting 25% or more of the total damage throughout the strike" (something along those lines). 2•From the moment a player enters a darkness zone, other members of the strike have 3-5 minutes to also enter the same darkness zone, failure to do so will result in getting booted to orbit. I understand many people rush past a majority of monsters to speed up the raid but if you are present, surely this is enough time to catch up. 3•All players must be present during the boss fight to receive rewards and bounties, whilst also inflicting at least 5-10% of the damage to boss/enemies within the boss zone/room 4•A vote kick option that becomes available once a player is inactive for 5 minutes or more. I feel this would work but nudging the controller would remove inactivity detection, so I would propose this option becomes available if they don't enter the current darkness zone within 3-5 minutes. 5•A report inactive option that becomes available under the same circumstances as mentioned above, instead of simply kicking them to orbit, make it add up so that if the same player is reported 2 times within the hour they are unable to do any vanguard strikes for a certain amount of time. Keep them coming, I will attempt to read and be as involved as possible. Although nothing will probably come of it anytime soon it's nice to have some ideas out there that might be viable. Plus it's keeping my mind busy at work. :)

  • The game already monitors inactivity. Why can't it have a automatic kick/replace function if you are AFK when the first dark zone is reached by other players?

          Lol it's normally for the deathless bounty anyways. That's why I always kill them with my sparrow, then revive them and let them sit there for the whole raid if they didn't notice they died

          • An easy solution to Strike Sitters is to also sit for a few minutes, after a while they get dropped for inactivity and you get a new teammate (hopefully). I hate when two people join, obviously working together for an Walking Tall bounty, and have one of them stay behind outside the zone. They shouldn't get credit for anything if they didn't damage the end boss. If the fireteam / striketeam works together, it is hard NOT to complete the Strike without Dying bounty, for everyone. Stop being puzzys and help out.

          • I rub strikes wirh a friend or 2 always now... Because of this. If i only have one friend with ne and the rabsi is afk we check his bounties. If he has strike without dieing we always die on purpose in a darkness zone or push him into an enemies line of fire.

          • I would like to see a "Boot by Vote" type system implemented... Set up to boot in darkness zones if there is a 2/3 vote to boot and the player is inactive for 60 or 90 seconds.

          • They could implement a vote a kick however, to prevent abuse they could neutralize that spot for the rest of the strike. Most of these strikes are level 24 max and can be easily handled by 2 players or even 1. If you vote kick a player, that strike either can't be entered by someone else to prevent abuse or they can just stop a reward for that spot (that would suck for a person that enters though). I'm sure people would be a douche and kick someone just to troll though so this system would likely be abused as well.

          • Nah that would suck for players who are actually playing but just suck. I think the best option here is vote to kick. 3 players if 1 is afk then it's easy to kick him/her.

It's obviously an ongoing issue.[/quote] Why not just implement a vote kick system. Or just simply leave the group. I have no problems leaving a group if the other people are pissing around.

              • Inevitably I think people will find a way to go as little as possible. Is like cheesing bosses. People will always find the path of leasy resistance. Unfortunately I don't think the solution is easy or even possible. Even if you make it so they participate in every darkness zone people will find ways to do nothing while being in the zones. And in the other hand, putting in a kill to earn loot system sounds good initially, but I have had a few friends that I wanted to help get higher level so they could raid with us and dragged them through the nightfall and weekly to do it. Now think about this.. So many people complaining about afk people on strikes. Imagine if there was matchmaking on the raid and we had to deal with crap like this? Point is that this stuff isn't a flaw in the game as much as in the gamer. We just have to learn to live with it.

                • I suggested a good solution before. If they aren't in the last area or the area before it, they get no rewards or bounties for the strike. They sit at the beginning, you finish the strike, get your bounties, and they waste 20 minutes doing nothing.

                  • Bit unfair really. I started the cabal strike last week with 2 others. They both bailed just before we battled the first colossus... more or less the start! I soldiered on and got to the tank on my own, 2 others then joined me... After we finished they both got better loot than me... Yet I killed a good 80% on my own

                  • Sometimes it is annoying, but I will also run ahead because I want a particular bounty (or two) completed quickly. What is more annoying to me are the sitters. On a rare time or two I've had to go AFK for a minute or two but I come right back and continue on.

                  • 30s don't really get matched with anything below 27 usually in strikes so I agree with this idea. I'm fed up with having a strike sitter in half the strikes I go into.

                  • Yea so complaining and finish the strike. So what you have a sitter just chilling at spawn. What you can handle a level 24 strike by your self? There been times ive carried people who are afk through 12 to 14 different tiger strikes and get exactly what im getting blue engrams. Idc any more there lost. Considering i show fellow guardians who actually play the strike with me where dead ghost are and golden chest in case they havent collected them. So stop the whining and do the strike. If they get a exotic or legendary good for them. Loot system is random. This has been proofed ALOT.
