Hi all. I'm new to Destiny. Given the recent great price, I decided to purchase this game ($40 USD) after playing it for a couple of days (via the free demo on the PS4). I'm a casual gamer who plays for 1-2 hours a day. I have a successful career in Banking/Financial Services.
Here are my initial impressions. I'm sharing them w/ the Community Manager and game developers so that they may have more data points to work with. Of course, they're free to discard my opinions altogether. Promise that it won't hurt my feelings.
Game looks great out of the box. Initial cutscenes are dramatic and nice productions. Not to crazy about the Speaker's voiceovers and a few others. They sound elitist in my opinion and are a bit of a turnoff.
Gameplay gunfight and melee mechanics are outstanding. Haven't had this much fun shooting enemies since playing Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Graphics and sound effects are equally outstanding. Best sound effects I've heard since playing Battlefield Bad Company 2. The accompanying music score is also outstanding but I wish there was an option to adjust its volume or turn it off completely. Still, I'm glad the music is of the orchestral style and not some heavy metal racket.
All in all, I think Destiny is an outstanding game so far and am enjoying playing it immensely. I don't intend to grind for things as I'm a casual gamer and don't have the time or interest to pursue such things in a devoted fashion. Instead, I'm going to take things as they come and remember that I'm playing a game to have fun.
I'll continue to post my impressions here in this thread as I continue playing this outstanding game.
Thank you Bungie for giving us an outstanding game to play, as well as your continued support of it.

I may be imaging things but I think the already fun Destiny multiplayer just got better. I think fusion rifles are now 2-3 hit kills instead of just 1 hit kill. Now, I see more players using auto rifles in battle. With the longer times to kill, the multiplayer battles have gotten a lot more interesting and fun. My only regret is that it was nice to see your targets disappear in a flash of light when you one-shot killed them with a fusion rifle. But this change (if it was changed), was sorely needed. The gunfights are much more fun.

I've played a few more rounds in the Destiny multiplayer component called the Crucible. It really is a lot of fun! But I've noticed how most players gravitate towards One Hit Kill (OHK) weapons like fusion rifles and shotguns. It's a shame as the gunfight gameplay would be really good given the time to kill (TTK) of the auto rifles. Perhaps the gameplay could be tweaked so that fusion rifles and shotguns weren't OHK weapons, but rather take more time to kill like that of the auto rifles.

Played my first Destiny Crucible multiplayer match last night. It was a lot of fun, even though I was getting killed a lot! While I'm a casual gamer, I can hold my own in multiplayer first person shooter games. Destiny multiplayer is a lot of fun. Notice, I didn't call it competitive multiplayer. For Destiny's multiplayer to be competitive, I think the players need to be on a more even footing. However, last night, my Level 6 character was getting blown away by Level 25+ gamers who all had weapons with strange names. Still, I managed to get in a few kills of these higher ranked players. Even did a little victory dance over their corpses. Like I said, the Destiny multiplayer is a lot of fun!

This is the basic Auto Rifle that you start with in Destiny. It does decent damage, has manageable recoil, and excellent iron sights. It's a great starter weapon for any Guardian. I really enjoyed playing Destiny with this weapon. I think BUNGIE did an outstanding job with the gunfight gameplay mechanics. All the weapons sound and "feel" great when using them.

Finally found the time to install my recent purchase of Destiny (I had been playing the free beta on the PS4). I was surprised to discover that in order to install the purchased game, I had to first delete the Destiny beta from my PS4 system. After installing the full version of Destiny via DVD, I also discovered that I had to download the update file again. I just hope my characters transfer over successfully.

I've decided to "open" my purchase of Destiny. Even though I'm having tremendous fun playing the demo for free, I think purchasing the full game is the least I can do to support BUNGIE as a business. After all, BUNGIE is doing a lot to support us gamers by continuously enhancing Destiny. I'm amazed at how much fun the gunfight and melee gameplay is in Destiny. As I mentioned in my first post of the thread, Destiny's gameplay mechanics are just as outstanding, if not more so, than that of Battlefield Bad Company 2 (a game that kept me playing it for a couple of years at least on the PC platform). I foresee Destiny providing me with years of gaming entertainment as well. Again, I'm not a pro, elite, or MLG gamer. No, I'm just a casual gamer who enjoys playing video games to unwind after work. You won't find me quibbling over technical specs like DPS and whatnot. All I care about is having fun playing a game.

Glad youre having fun, and welcome to the community!

Edited by omega4: 12/6/2014 3:13:38 AMJust played some more Destiny tonight. Call me crazy but I'm having lots of fun replaying the same missions over and over again. I'm still playing via the free demo. At this rate, I may just return the Destiny game that I just bought (haven't opened yet)! Having too much fun with the free demo!
