I played last night as the relic holder for the Templar phase and whenever the Templar created a force field/bubble around me, I could not break it with the relic. If I pulled the right trigger to do a shield bash, I would lunge out of the bubble and die. I couldn't jump up either to do an area smash. Am I supposed to drop the relic and use my weapons to break the bubble and then pick up the relic again?

Thank you for the help guys. I will try both methods. You can understand my confusion, right? If it's a detention bubble, it should detain me. It's not really detaining me if I can lunge outside of it and have to try to make it back in the bubble before I die. I thought all I would have to do is just keep RT'ing until I hit the wall where I would continue to hit the wall and eventually break it. Didn't think my RT would let me get out of the bubble. Whatever. Thanks again guys!

Right trigger can be a bit glitchy, but it's more timing and distance. It doesn't actually hit until the end of its animation, so if you can pass through the target, you will do so before hitting. Distance matters. I like to start with a right bumper attack, to damage and get against the detain on one side, then right trigger attack against the opposite wall to break detain. A couple of successive right bumper attacks will also work.

Try pressing R1/RB for a regular melee. If that doesnt work, yes drop the relic and switch to your special (fusion is best) or heavy (lmg, no rocket, learned that the hard way lol), break it quickly and pick up the relic again. 2nd way to avoid this is (we do this in my clan) whoever is holding the relic, is backed by someone. So its 2 people in the bubble. Relic holder doesnt have to drop, 2nd person can break the shield/shields, no super energy lost.
