Hey guardians, like many of you I have mixed feelings about the exotic upgrade news. I did have some ideas to improve the system though. Let me know what you think, or offer your own ideas here!
1. The primary weapons coming in the hard raid will make favourite guns like the Epilogue or the Vision obsolete. How about a level 32 or 33 mode for the VoG that opens at the same time? Bosses could drop items used to upgrade the weapons they drop in lower difficulty levels, to bring them up to speed.
2. People don't see any value in maxing out an exotic before the upgrade! My idea is twofold: if your weapon is maxed out, Xur can upgrade it at ANY time, instead of waiting for RNG to make it available. Additionally, if you've already invested an exotic shard in it, there should be no exotic shard cost for the upgrade.
3. It genuinely does feel like upgrading is resetting progress. The gun will have better "Attack" stat, but for a lot of content, like patrols or PVP, the damage is normalized or capped so that the gun will be a strict downgrade without the perks. Here I also have two ideas:
- On the upgraded gun, move the unique exotic perk to the first column, like the Vex Mythoclast does, so the gun never stops feeling like itself. Levelling Pocket Infinity without full auto was painful!
- Second, in addition to a numerical boost, provide a modest upgrade to the raw stats of the gun! Having a bit larger mag or a bit more impact or stability would go a long way to actually making it feel like an upgrade! This also means Crucible players have a reason to upgrade their favourite gun.
