Power creeping and reformat discussion Vol. Re-wipe is pointless?
For those that do not know, power creeping is when content makes another redundant. This in the terms of destiny is the dlc guns and armor; the old content will be made useless as the new content will be stronger, hence the power creep. Any use of the old content would be for personal/aesthetic reasons.
Power creeping is not something new to destiny though, when VoG was introduced all armor within the game became useless. To some degree power creeping also occurs within the guns. An exotic should be better than a legendary of the same type. However due to being able to only use one at a time, a hierarchy is created with the more useful and stronger exotics being used more frequently or sort after more. It should also be noted that this hierarchy also means that some weapons are hardly or never used; the recent patch sort to change this by buffing the less powerful ones.
This does not remove the hierarchy though, one gun will always be better than another. When the new guns are introduced these too will slowly fall into place within the hierarchy. If DragonsBreath is better than Gjallahorn, then a power creep will occur and Gjallahorn will be redundant and less sort after.
If this occurs, then there is no reason to upgrade a Gjallahorn to the next level. If the weapon only becomes a collectible or a weapon that is used now and then for fun, rewiping it would be pointless. This can be said for all the guns and future guns. There is no use in re-upgrading a gun you hardly use when more guns are introduced.
Forcing players to do this will cause the hierarchy to be even more distant and those exotics that hardly see the light of day now will become known as free exotic shards.
