Xur is an interesting character to me. He brings up so many questions. Who is he? What is he? What are "the Nine?" Why does he like Strange Coins, and why is he willing to trade them for far more useful items?
All this mystery, all this lore, all dressed up like an alien version of the Resident Evil 4 Merchant!
So I ask again: To you, who is Xur? What place does he have in your created lore?
(Meant for the group "Scribes of the Tower.")
(Anyone can join, so long as you're interested in expanding on Destiny's lore in some way.)

I thought myself that he was dead but some how he escaped the vault and ridded his mind of the vex that corrupted him but it left him with a scar as you see

He is my Brother it is true

I read that he may be kabr. As he was lost in time, the light or dark made him a deal. Xur was born

If you're curios on the nine read AnonPig theories

Edited by BryBry07: 6/21/2015 3:36:18 AMYou may have heard this before, but I believe that Xur was part of Kabr's fireteam in the Vault Of Glass. As for his, I guess you could say, face, I believe that he was "Lost in the dark corners of time", he succumbed to the darkness, somehow escaped from it and became a traveler in who sells exotics.

Xur is someone or a collection of someone,'s that CHOSE there date to live being the reef in the jovian planets (planets beyond the reef and just out of reach of the light as the light only travels as far as the reef. By stating they CHOOSE to go all the way out there too the "outer world s" as he calls them. The nine choose to live out beyond the reef where as the awoken did not. And that last part is taken directly from a grimore card.

I thought the warminds were "the nine" or am I mixed up with something?

Alot of people think Xur could be part of Eris original team but no one knows how he survived not even Eris or that it was him. Or he is a form of darkness Food for thought

I'm of the opinion that Xur may well be a spy for the Nine. He pops up at regular intervals (regular so they can be timed to the extent we are lured into trusting him and security, as he isn't a surprise.) but isn't there all the time, which prevents us as Guardians from learning much about him and his origins and actions. He also earns trust for himself with his exotics. Lethal weapons and armour which are very valuable in our war with the Darkness, naturally. Why peer too closely and maybe scare away a valuable source?

There are many theories that I take into mind, including my own. Some say Xur is from a different dimension/alternate reality. While i've never looked into this, it goes back to the theories on what the big picture is for Destiny's storyline. Obviously, he is an Agent of the Nine. And although nobody has actually seen one of the Nine, there are many speculations that they are the Nine warminds (Assuming there was a warmind for every planet and pluto was included). Now i'm not sure why he would serve AI's, but that must be a part of the bigger picture as well. His appearance to me is the opposite of what an Awoken is. Instead of being extremely pale, his very skin seems to be consumed by darkness. What does this mean, you ask? I'm not sure anyone knows, but if you hang around him long enough, you will hear him talk of very strange things. Xur is indeed one of the most mysterious figures in Destiny so far.
