First off I would like to extend my apologies to Bungie for not actually following their tech support advice, and for openly blaming them for errors that were being caused on my end. So... I am sorry for being rude and thanks for the great game. Now allow me to make up for it, by explaining the actual problem people are facing with Caterpillar and Hawk.
If you are having problems with Hawk and Caterpillar error codes, it is actually the basic factory set up on your modem and not a server issue/error..
If you call BS on that , well i'll ask this question. Have you set up a static ip for your xbox/playstation?
If your answer is NO, then you don't have an assigned IP (static IP), and your problem is that your modem is assigning your console random IPs while you are playing, which is causing your connection issues.
Xbox one

Playstation 4

Xbox360

Playstation 3

If someone in your home is streaming videos or movies while you're playing (including you), your low bandwidth could be causing the same issues.
If you want too Port Forward for the best connection possible for Destiny and all of your other online games
http://portforward.com/help/destiny/
Remember when portforwarding use the IP address of your console and not your computer's.
I hope that helps> see you on xbl
*edit: addendum*
*PS DO NOT port forward UNLESS you have already CREATED your STATIC IP, or it will make your connection to Destiny, WORSE, not BETTER.
SET UP YOUR STATIC IP FIRST, THEN PORT FORWARD!
one more time for the back row, set up your IP in the way suggested in the links above before you try port forwarding.

Few things inspire rage more than connection issues, especially since there are so many variables, the Internet might as well be created by magic.

Edited by lIMaclI: 12/5/2014 12:31:33 PMGet outta here with that ass kissing. No real disrespect meant but like others have stated the majority of ppl on the forums have tried all of this. Static Ips, port forwarding, dmzing, hell even deleting all destiny data and redowbloading and reinstalling. Just because you weren't smart enough to try these things out for yourself doesnt mean everyone else or even the majority of ppl experiencing these problems are as ignorant. Honestly you indirectly insult everyone else by assuming such and a post like this will only encourage bungie to keep giving automated and bs responses instead of addressing and fixing the real problem. You didnt read the possible solutions and now that you have one fixed it for you. Great. It seems you havent learned yohr lesson though, because you posted this stupid topic before reading the forums and realizing pretty much everyone else has tried all of these fixes and then some and still have probs. Please delete this topic.

Edited by StormSurge721: 12/5/2014 11:49:39 PMWhy do I have to mess around with my modem's just to play a game!? I play Halo, Battlefield 4, COD, and other online compatible games and I never had an terrible problem like this. EDIT: Is this the only way to fix this problem...?

Started a new topic: If you reside in VA. and are exp error codes

Sorry that doesnt work. I spent the last 2 days on the phone with xbox and comcast doing all that and still caterpillar code. If it is something with comcast supplyed router/modem bungie needs to tell us. Comcast tech even came by and said why am I here everything is working good.
First off I would like to extend my apologies to Bungie for not actually following their tech support advice, and for openly blaming them for errors that were being caused on my end
lol ... you forgot the [/sarcasm] tag. Why apologies ... honestly they never do; - "We are aware that many players are experiencing MONKEY errors after the 1.0.2.3 patch" Not a hint of sorrow nor an apology. - "After the 1.1 patch players began seeing WASP" And here they try to blame everyone wifi ... worked fine before the patch, yet still YOUR fault. Like we all decided to screw with our own networks ... what a joke bungie is. And why is it only bungie's games that have all these networking problems? Obviously bungie are missing the control that Microsoft brought to their past games ... and with the hundreds on networking errors it shows. No wonder the gamer ratings continue to fall.

I do call it BS, I have a PS4 n One an it's funny one console gets all the errors, an the other doesn't. Both are hard wired to my modem, both are on the same network to bungie. But the both to bungie, one with errors, the other runs sweet. It's not the modem, it's bungie fault. An telling the community they have the problem when it's in bungie's backyard.
-
Take your bs somewhere else please... The Bungie servers or code has issue's not our consoles or connection!

Edited by Draconus2006: 12/3/2014 11:31:26 PMif bungie doesn't try a little openness and fix this by the 8th, I am done with destiny. I am not going to buy an expansion I cant play. My connection was fine 2 weeks ago. I got back yesterday and the game has been on the verge of unplayable with so many error codes and disconnects. I changed nothing, thus that leaves the updates bungie did that i downloaded yesterday as the cause.

I have a comcast modem/router and was getting caterpillar. I just hooked up a seperate router and enabled bridge and have been on for a hour no problems. There may be a issuse with the comcast supplied router. I used a belkin.

Im that IT guy i would like to give my 2cent . i use my own cable modem and i have my own netgear router.-- IP in local net work doesnt affect out side connection unless conflict IP on the same network now as that being said the cable modem it self is static from the company.. its not ur connection i never lost connection . i was for a bit on ps3 do to system file check for modders and what not .illegal copy of games on ps3 and 360 can go online emulate and run then soon be discover and banned. i dont have xb1 or 360 but i have both ps3 and ps4 my connection is golden pay for high tier to get the fastest connection. If anyone read this its the server side with all the codes and ip being log on and save its will boot someone do to overload and bad coding. no blame game its just fact!

After this new patch 1.03 i am getting even more disconnects now holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
With all due respect, I think most people blaming bungie have already applied these easy fixes to no avail. I know I have. I came here hoping to find a new solution to a well-known problem that has existed since launch. What I found was a common sense solution that doesn't fix broken servers. At least you're trying to help others, though. That's more than I can say for myself.

Why are you apologizing for poor workmanship on behalf of Bungie? I assume you didn't purchase your Xbox just to play destiny, that you've used apps and played other games some of which were multiplayer. Did you ever have to jump through hoops just to have 10 minutes of uninterrupted connectivity? I haven't had any problems in the life of my Xbox before destiny and specifically since the last patch. That's pretty damn odd coincidence. Consoles gaming is meant to be plug and play which this level of networking set up is not.

Rock on, brother. Connections are a difficult thing to figure out sometimes. Hope to see you startside.
-
if you have verizon fios & use the router MI424WR Rev. I , enable dmz for the console you are wanting. by enable dmz it opens all ports for the device/console. so you will become 100% open nat

Has this been helping? I am overloading with Xbox Live disconnections, caterpillars mainly during patrols, and hawks on occasion.
