Take this as it is as I may be a little sarcastic here and there, maybe a little rude and somewhat ranty but without customer feedback for this game, and even feedback straight to the developer end! it will never improve(although it is getting better :D)
I am actually posting this(I know, i must be crazy) - as you are reading this. I am sure to sound utterly ridiculous given the fact that i am posting about the one thing that has no effect on gameplay, etc...(minus the actual error)
[i]WARNING: THIS POST IS LOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGGG[/i]
Whenever an error pops up while playing the game - at least one that doesn't just boot you to orbit and says you have been kicked to orbit, you should really dial it down a notch and not so much entertain the idea that it is "my network configuration".
When we players get the error it says
[quote]ERROR
Could not connect to Destiny servers. Please check your network configuration and try again. For information on resolving this issue visit help.bungie.net and search for error code:
error code name.[/quote]
From my experience
My network isn't the issue, i have never had any hiccups playing any online fps or any online game for that matter since we got an upgraded modem and bought a more up to date router. The only issues i have ever had to deal with were games without dedicated servers and poor peer to peer connection given i wasn't the host. My ping for most games range from a low 4 to 100 but never goes over even on wifi in the weakest portions of my house (although i do have 4 wifi connections and LAN cables
routed throughout my house so its nearly impossible to be under 3 wifi bars unless you go into the garage)
As far as my NAT type - Open type 2 (for my ps4, ps3, xbox one and xbox 360)
Another annoying aspect is the "connecting to destiny servers" error on the bottom of the screen while in game. I don't know what causes it to popup and i never will - the community as a whole probably doesn't even know themselves. Where i see it its the gap between my connection and bungies servers and me trying to connect to you but you are not letting me in even when everything was running flawlessly a second ago.
help.bungie.net actually does help finding the errors but the troubleshooting causes a plethora of issues. Sometimes it says check your ports and other times it says check your firewall, hell you even have a guide to improve connectivity which only half works in some cases...Then you post on the forums to have the bungie team tell you to not port forward and to do something else like make sure plug and play is checked or something along those lines - which is honestly counter productive and you are really wasting your resources dealing with problems that arise due to network configurations.
~instead just say, try one! or the other and see which works: if both don't work then what?~
As far as remaking the Error page response - Cut out the check your network connection part - it's probably not the issue in most cases(at least for me) and it may confuse people if they too have a strong internet connection for every single game on every single console other than destiny.
make it say something like this which is just a complete deletion of the network config text!
~boot to orbit/login/main screen~ <-- it already does this :p

Do i sound crazy? Probably <(@_@)>, most of you will probably just troll this post with some hilarious and ridiculous comments bashing my credibility as a person, machine, bot, incredibly smart or incredibly stupid artificial intelligence, or maybe im a genetically modified dog who knows how to type! either way im behind a wall of text like the rest of you and could care less about who is typing the words.
It is annoying to see an error that THINKS the problem is on my end when its probably not, or is impossible to tell because the information given back to us is so minimal although im sure on your end its a vast log of errors that bring up debug info and code.
As a hypothetical:
Has anyone stopped to think that maybe the servers(or whatever the game is running on) at bungie are denying requests from peoples networks? (clearly not intentionally - although that would be terrible and kinda hilarious at the same time).
Thats about it for my somewhat serious yet kinda not so serious post on why i dislike the error popup and why i think it should be changed to something less assuming.
Is this post real(I can't believe someone is posting this)? You bet it is!
Am i an angry kid(or crazed adult) who just wants to cry and complain because i can?- HAHA, no...!
Am i questioning some ridiculous things that no one cares to change? I'd like to think so!
Do i actually have a problem with the error code pop up? - more towards the yes response.
Will this be read by bungie? probably not but who knows - and if it is(1 generic response coming up) i don't think they will take it seriously(not because of the general fact that I have already explained this post to be a bit absurd! but because the community as a whole loves to post sarcastic and ridiculous cry baby posts that no one wants to take seriously.)
Take this post as it is. I am trying to improve the way error's are reported on the gamers end as I know a lot of us are very annoyed when we see that dreaded animal appear before our eyes- even if my ranty sarcastic and rude post doesn't quite catch the eyes of the company that makes this game. I want there to be a way for players to understand their errors as quickly as the bungie team understands them(given there is a known fix for it and i know this will take some time). Spitting back a generic response leaves too many variables open for question and never quite grabs the error by the cheek.
There are many things in this game that need fixing and don't fall in the gameplay feedback section(AKA the nerf me section) - so someone has to bring it up if no one else will.
I hope some of you enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed typing it, if not then too bad you read it anyways! if you skipped over the whole post and just comment thats fine, but you are half the problem.
Thanks again! and have fun filling up your zoo encyclopedia!
