Legendary Engrams Are A Myth
They must be a myth right? Because I've never gotten one anywhere, be it in the wild dropped by an enemy or as a reward for an activity or from a package. I'm a Level 28 who runs lots of Tiger Strikes, nightfall, weekly 28 and now the raid every week, does lots of patrols and general enemy killing everywhere I go. Not a single one has dropped for me. Ever. A sea of blue and green and nothing else.
All of my legendary items were either bought, rewarded from activities as intact tangible items, or in the case of two specific items surprise drops from blue engrams.
I think the game files installed on my PS4 with the model for a purple engram missing. For a while there I would get excited seeing a purple glow but it always turned out to be heavy ammo. I'm literally at the point I have given up even looking forward to finding one. I have come to the conclusion that they do not exist. Otherwise you'd think I would have seen one somewhere, ANYWHERE by now.
I see people posting in here all the time that they *only* got two or three purples this week, or they got a purple that turned into an Ice Breaker or something. I think it's all fairy tales.
Has anybody else made it to Level 28 without seeing a purple engram? Am I playing Destiny in some kind of alternate dimension?

Just this past weekend I got 2 legendary engrams in the first area on mars, where the vex come out the cave and the cabal come out the bunker. Every once in a while, majors spawn for both sides and an all out war breaks out! Got a bunch there. Then I got legendary helmet engram from crucible. You know there have been studies suggesting that people can have an effect on random number generators, through thoughts and will power. A friend of mine didn't buy plan c because he thought he could get it from nightfall. Once phogoth fell, he did his little ritual of praying to rngesus and jumping off the ledge. SOB got Plan C.

i get legendary engrams every week. the issue is because of the farming patch they lowered the amount of legendary engram drops from killing.

1 ReplyIm level 30 and have gotten about 3 ld engrams drop from mobs, many from the cryptarch and about 10ish from weekly/nightfall/tiger.

Ive done a looooot of strikes and have only seen few exotic rewards and ive gotten about 4 leg engrams in total (off mobs). I do a lot just because ive been praying for a hawkmoon lol

I don't get them often but I got one today and BAM my second Mida Multi Tool.

Similar story here... I did the raid for the first time last night - found a really good bunch on destinylfg who were happy to take a newbie through - and whilst it was fun, I was ultimately underwhelmed by it... I can't help but think that a big reason for this was that all I got out of the whole experience was shards and the stupid Titan waist rag

Didn't see any before level 27 (+28 now) but since then I've gotten the following: 2 Dustwalker cloaks, 3 Swarms, A.1F19X-RYL, Final Rest II, The Comedian and The Crash... ALL by killing random enemies while material farming on different planets/the Moon. And I had a blue engram I got in a public event upgrade to legendary crucible gauntlets. So hang in there brother; good luck.

They are rare! You have 2 days of playtime, no wonder you have not seen them. I have 7+ and I have seen 4 dropping total so far (all post-patch).

Seriously I had two drop in one day just the other day. It was totally random. One was boots that gave me shards. Another was a special weapon that gave me the Prudence sniper rifle I believe. They do exist man. Just have to believe.

Back in the days of the loot cave (I didn't ever spend much time there, found it boring) I was shooting with some friends and found a legendary Engram in the cave. I returned to the spot, shot some more and out pops a second Engram not 30 seconds later. Beautiful.

I revceived one yesterday during Patrols. Legendary shotgun, sharded.

I have gotten two purple engrams dropped from enemies and one from a chest all within one hour. The day before that had one dropped from an enemy during a Tiger strike. This was three weeks ago. Since then nothing, before that, also nothing. I'm still trying to figure out how the rng actually works...

I got my second legendary engram drop with my first kill in the daily story yesterday. Turned into an exotic hunter helm. Pretty happy even if I am a Titan.

funny story- while I've never gotten a Legendary or Exotic as a reward in Strikes/Crucible/Nightfall/Weekly, I have received several while doing Patrol, including the Mask of the Third Man i got from killing lvl 4 Dreg in Cosmodrome;)

They are very rare, but they aren't a myth. I've got maybe 10+. Once I got two in a row by doing daily story.

Does anybody know if reaching some specific grimoire score or other such milestone increases your chances of getting purples?

I got around 6 to 10, most of them turned into materials and quite a few I got decent weapons. My first legendary turned into red death!
