Feeding the Guardian

I'm a senior dietetic student at Colorado State University and wanted to [i]try[/i] and answer nutrition related questions to my fellow gamers. I'm trying not to play Destiny until after finals or until Xur brings a helmet for a titan. So yeah, if you ever wondered how you could improve your diet or why dietary cholesterol doesn't effect serum cholesterol then post a comment and I will try and help.     Why Nutrition Matters: # 1 The term 'bolus' is given to food once it has been turned into mush from chewing and salivary enzymes. Why am I telling you this? I'm sitting here eating a bowl of mixed veggies thinking about how chewing your food improves overall human nutrition. We sometimes forget why we are eating and just eat to eat, sometimes we are so busy we just scarf our meals down without thinking about them. This affects overall health status. I was in the military for 5 years and developed a bad habit of scarfing my food down in record times but, I'm not in the military anymore and I have time to eat. It we slow down and enjoy our food., life gets better. So next time you eat, think about turning your food into a bolus. Bolus FTW Freddy J .

  • Any advice? I'm prescribed addy for my ADD and I have the worst time with my appetite. It's practically completely diminished and I'm normally the type that could handle huge meals at a time. Large pizzas in one serving or whatever. I just know it's awful for me to not eat... Any feedback is great. Thanks.

    • Do you know of a good online resource to review vitamin deficiencies (pathophys, Sx, Dx, Tx?) I would like to review it a bit more than the detail my shelf review books go into. A quiz would be perfect if you know of one. Much appreciated!

          [b]Breakfast Idea #1 - [/b]The Titan Slam Who doesn't love bacon and eggs? I know I do, here is an idea to eat bacon and eggs while powering your gaming experience. [b]Supplies:[/b] Saucepan 2 strips Bacon 1 Egg 2 Handfuls Raw spinach 1 Rice cake Pinch of cheese (blue cheese is amazing on this dish) 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil 1 Fruit Season to preference (salt, pepper, etc.) Step 1: Turn on the XBOX and put on an episode of Fururama, that show is awesome! Step 2: While you are listening to the professor - heat up a 1/2 tablespoon of oil (medium heat) Step 3: Cook down 2 handfuls of spinach and put it in a bowl off to the side. Step 4: Add another Tablespoon of olive oil and cook your 2 strips of bacon, put them on the side. Step 5: Cook the egg in the same pan. Step 6: Take your rice cake and put two strips of bacon on it, then add the cooked spinach, then the egg, and add a pinch of cheese on top. Step 7: Sit down with a glass of milk or water with a fruit of choice and enjoy. This balanced breakfast takes only 10-20 minutes, based on cooking experience, and provides a well balanced meal for your day of gaming. Titan Slam FTW Freddy J

            [b]Snack Idea #3[/b] 2- easy steps on Improving Your Cereal Wanna improve your gaming? Your body does a great deal of work utilizing sodium potassium pumps, bananas are a good source of potassium, cut OR smash one to preference and add it to your bowl. Then add some milk and mix in a scoop or two of ground flax seeds, I bought my bag from Costco, they are a good source of essential fatty acids. Boom.                         • [b]Gaming Snack Idea #2: Black Bean Brownies[/b] Okay, so you enjoyed your Peanut butter with apples & bananas but today is a new day. You had planned on making a boxed brownie mix tonight so I want to offer a way to make those brownies a little healthier without affecting the flavor much. I have enjoyed these before and they are surprisingly good. [u]Supplies:[/u] 1 package brownie mix 1 cup water 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained (Optional) 1 cup chocolate chips or 1 cup pecans Step 1. Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 F (175 C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish (blindfolded). Step 2. Blend the black beans and water together using a blender until nice and smooth. Pour the beans into a large mixing bowl and mix the brownie mix until smooth; fold in chocolate chips or nuts. Pour mixture into a 9x13-inch dish. Step 3. Throw this baking dish into the oven and set the timer for 25 minutes. Step 4. While waiting for the brownies to bake go and run the weekly heroic because the cabal aren't going to punch themselves in the face! Titans FTW, Freddy J

What do you do? Make a snack to be consumed before or during the raid that will both taste good and be nutritious. Supplies? 2 slices of wheat bread Peanut butter Apple Banana Granola or Cereal 1. Guardians, slice the apple and banana any way you like. 2. Use the biggest coolest knife you own and slap peanut butter on both pieces of bread, like a boss. 3.
