I'm not defending Bungie or Activision here but people need to know why all this crap happened.
The problems of Destiny came about Because of economics not out of greedy conspiracy. What happened is that (redacted for edit) they could not predict the massive sales of PS4/xb1 that would come with this game, so they had to cut content so they could quickly and port it to current gen systems.
Destiny was made and designed originally for next gen only. Xbox one (called Xbox 720 in contract) was the default development console. PS3 and 360 were not being considered at the time, they believed more gamers would have purchased a next gen by launch. All these systems have totally different hardware and firmware, and porting to them all would take a considerable amount of time and money and quality compromise. Bungie had to hire additional contractors to help with the porting. They had to make sure everyone got the same content on all consoles to make it fair. They needed to sell this game because they were past the proposed launch date. We are basically paying for DLC because a bunch of gamers decided to wait out buying next gen after E3 2013.
It would have been a disaster if they only released the game on next gen. The sales would have been awful and make Activision look weak in a competitive industry. If Destiny was repededly being called a next gen title they expected enough people would have next gen consoles by launch date to play it and meet expected sales.
Everything is on the game discs that they had completed before the cuts, and had to leave it for later or just leave it because they were behind schedule and needed to launch a cross platform game that everyone could play before holidays. Activision couldn't sit by forever and hemorrhage cash onto bungie so they both decided to take a hit from disappointment rather than loss of sales that could cripple the 10 year plan.
Now for QA
What happened to trading? Originally there was a trade system but it was to complicated to put across all systems and quality would be at risk. Activision Blizzard also was concerned about the trading disaster in early days of Diablo 3. These 2 factors resulted in cutting it from all systems.
What about huge open world? In order to complete the game faster they had to cut things they couldn't finish. I'm sure it was bigger but there was not enough time.
Why won't they say anything? It's because they cannot appear weak as an investment for shareholders. That kind of instability is discouraging.
Is the DLC worth it? Well if you look back on older Bungie DLC And adjust for inflation I would say it is. However the game itself compared to other next gen games is not worth it. Technically it is not a next gen because it was ported to last gen with all the same base content.
Why did they cut so much story? The cuts meant They could only use the content that was finished or about to be finished soon. Anything they could fit in that made semi sense they did, the story will have to come with the DLC or base content expansion. The main story writer left when his story was cut for obvious reasons, he shouldn't have a problem finding a job.
Why so much hate on PvE? Not hate, but to ensure that CoD fans would be happy Activision wanted to please The majority of its customers, who in all fairness greatly outnumber Bungie fans.
Why am I getting all these disconnects and glitches? Are you playing on a PS4? If not you may get more issues. I have PS4 and its incredibly smooth rarely kicks me to orbit. Hardware and firmware are very different on all platforms and there can be bugs from the port process.
No customization? There really was not enough time to implement all this stuff and port it to last gen. Something like this would be unforgivable to not give to everyone.
Will they fix any of this? Yes they will and they are working on it, now that they launched the game they can monitor and make adjustments and get back to story and content.
Why should I buy DLC? 500M over 10 years is 50m a year, that's actually not a lot, they also need money to pay for all that extra stuff they didn't plan on doing like supporting 360 and ps3. Contractors and many other expenses.
Why Xbox stuff not come sooner? PlayStation stuff has pretty much already been made and is being touched up, modified and other things. Xbox stuff still needs to go through porting and QA .
Why pay for the DLC? Well after all the crap went down they incured extra expenses, in order to make up for that the DLC for Destiny 1 will have to be paid. Destiny 2 may be different with the DLC but we don't know for sure.
So I want you all to know the good stuff will be coming but we have to be patient and just deal with what we got. Remember that Bungie is a noob at this whole MMO stuff so it's gonna be rocky at first like we have seen.
Edit 1: when the hardware specs came out for next gen consoles bungie went with Sony because it was easier to develop on it. Ps4 not only gets exclusives but is also bungies development platform. Everything else is a port. And contractors handle ports. Contractors cost money and they had to port 2 more older consoles and had to clone the base content across all platforms. Bungie also had to take some people out of developing so they could bring contractors up to date and oversee them.

False advertisement is false advertisement. Even if this is all true, that doesn't change the fact that this game doesn't even come remotely close to delivering its promises. People are well within their rights to be angry at the bait-and-switch.
