Yes, where is the struggle? Am I saving mankind or am I an undead thug bullying on chained up creatures like phogoth? I can't tell, there is no visible human struggle and any NPC in the game is either a faceless nobody without any dialog or a vendor. Who am I saving here because it seems the only people in the world are guardians anyway?

I think that this is exactly where Bungie went wrong story wise: I belive there once was a darker more mature Destiny storyline, in which the traveller - and therefore you Gost as well - was evil and we would slowly uncover this fact during the game. One example for a similar cut to the story are the one scene in an older Destiny Trailer in which the brother of the Queen of the Reef points a gun at the guardians face and seems to kidnap him (a complete storyline cut?!) But why would Bungie/Activision do something like this? It's quite possible, that the two companies wanted to make Destiny more accsessible to younger audiences to sell more copies of the game (hence the T rating in the United States) and therefore had to cut the complex story the had created. This is strongly indicated by Joseph Staten (lead writer of Destiny and long time Bungie employee) leaving just one year before the release to “tackle new creative challenges.” How the hell can there be a bigger creative challenge than building the universe to one of the most ambitious games in history that strived to revolutionize the world of gaming?! Since I am a Bungie fan I subjectively blame Activision, and objectively blame the most part of todays "gaming society", but thats for another time :) Stay positive and play the Raid to make "your own fate"! Maybe uncover some of the Vaults mysteries, and what not, that keeps me motivated!!
