I'm totally on board with Bungie's idea that legendary drops should be exciting and celebrated events.
I find it absolutely impossible to distinguish between a Rare Engram drop and a Legendary Engram drop. I'm colourblind - and have protanopia (basically, no red cones in my eyes) - so blue and purple are indistinguishable to me for similar intensities of colour.
While it does announce the Legendary Engram once it's picked up, I've been excited inappropriately or blasé about a drop at least three times a play session.
It'd be really great to not have to play the weird guessing game that colourblindness pushes on me, even if it is a relatively minor thing. I am sure that the other colourblindos feel the same. Usually we're forgotten in games and it's too minor an issue to release a patch for but given the aggressive update and fix schedule Bungie's been undertaking hopefully you could fit something in?
Tl;dr - colourblindness makes it next to impossible to differentiate blue vs purple for the Engram colours. Please change the shades to make them more dissimilar, add a differentiating effect or change the colours entirely.

Edited by justin_giver: 11/28/2014 5:40:13 PMI just assume everything is green. I rarely see blue and never see purple. Seriously I have had only 3 maybe 4 purple drops ever. Are they real. Are they extinct. I'm considering searching for the yeti in Russia next patrol, I think there is more likelyhood of finding it than a purple engram lmao Edit: within 5 minutes of playing last night I got 3 purple engrams. One was a weapon. Two ended up being coins. Coincidence???

No Just pick it up and read it. Really need 2 seconds to look at it? Just no I have a few colorblind friends 1 who plays destiny and is almost 100% colorblind, like he has no idea what any items color is he has to hover over and read it. He is fine with it its what he expects Never seen him complain about it Grow up

I'm not even color blind and myself plus many others have often mistaken blues for purples.
-
Anynoday arguing against this has no clue on being colorblind. It sucks and makes it tough to play most games because they don't have a good colorblind option.

Edited by Thalia272: 11/27/2014 2:12:34 PMi can see colors but i dont get excited when i see a legendary for the simple reason that they still dont give anything good. also is it me or have legendary engrams become harder to find. it has been ages since i got one from the cryptarch with this im talking about 20 lvls spread over my 3 characters. just finding one a week is alot. btw colorblindness comes in many forms so i was wondering if they chanced the color which would be the best? maby they should just put a void effect on them like those vanguard and crucible warlock class items have.

Im not color blind and i have trouble telling between blue and purple in certain areas
-
I happen to agree with you being colour blind myself I suffer the same issue I began a thread about the similar issue with the enemy red indicator in the map on PVP as I am blind by red and green my recommendation is a colour blind option to change the colours in the menu as it then doesn't take away from other players who aren't in our position and may enjoy the colours that are there

Edited by pokepatrick1: 11/27/2014 4:33:20 PMI agree. I'm not color blind and sometimes I find it difficult to tell the difference.
-
How can this even be a rant? If your really that bothered to find out what engram you have just received, look on your inventory and read. Takes seconds. The colours are not the problem here, the fact your lazy is thought. If you where saying you couldn't tell what sheilds enemys have, I could see that problem, but not this.
-
An option for colourblind people to change colours is a good idea.
-
I agree with an option to adjust for colorblind.
-
Agreed. I always mistake blues for legendarily :'(

Edited by v3NTTi: 11/28/2014 12:49:30 AMShouldn't really be a concern considering all rare and legendary engrams will be at the postmaster if you don't pick them up.
-
Assume blue. then when purple=super happy

Edited by Logan: 11/28/2014 12:18:39 AMIt's been so long since I picked up a legendary engram in the field I'm beginning to question if they still exist!
-
I don't even get excited when I find a legendary engram. Just turns out to be energy
-
Play Borderlands 2 :)
-
Just don't pick up any engrams. Blues and purples go straight to postman if you miss them. Then you can read from there
-
Off topic here. Even tho to me it would be very interesting to see how u see the things around u, i have to say being any type of colorblind has to suck for these specific lil things in life. I wanna say that i respect you for dealing with said problems, hope u live a good life dude/ma'am.

Right! That is why there needs to be a lock button on items. Deleted my corrective measure. Tired of walking up to my screen to figure out EVERY weapon and armor piece. Maybe a buyback option or an auto-organization option.
-
Change the color tones on your tv settings until you can tell the difference.
-
They needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few buddy. Try adjusting the color on your tv
-
We all have this trouble with the blue n purple.in the wrong light they look very similar.but being colour blind would make it hard tho.or an extra surprise when ya run up n grab them :o)
-
When you pick up a Legendary engram, it says it right on the screen, even if it's not color friendly it tells you and the fire team you found one.
-
Not just for the colorblind, the shades on engrams and lighting combination can make them really hard to differentiate in bright areas. And they are very similar to the green and purple ammo drops as well, I've seen purple lighting from a far off engram after sniping and rushed forward only to find a heavy weapon ammo next to a green engram.
