Idea for new content: Targets, Marks, or Bounties. (Call it what you want)
I was just daydreaming about destiny thinking about some new end game content the could be incorporated without extensive amounts of work from the Bungie team. A lot of ideas I see would be awesome but would require an amount of work that almost guarantees they won't happen. Here is my idea.
For those of you who have played Final Fantasy 12 you'll understand this and it was my direct inspiration (Read: Plagiarism) for this mechanic. There should exist a new vendor in town that has the ability to sell you a sort of eliminate the target mission. There would be multiple level available for end game characters. I was thinking 20, 25, and 30, but that is dealers choice. You would be told which planet the target it on and a vague description of what area. Something like:
"Randal the Vandal is loose in the Cosmodrone. He is a Vandal of immense power and we need him eliminated. We have reports that he favors setting up camp near water"
Once you accept the mission you would of course go to patrol on the planet of choice, however, there would be no markers to guide you to the target it would be your responsibility to track down your target and eliminate him. At first I thought you could specify the zone, i.e. "The Mothyards" but because each area is so small it wouldn't take much effort to track down your target so the description would give a vague description like "Near the water" and we all know what Randal likes to hang out. You could say things like "This target likes dark, indoor places" and you would know it isn't going to be in an outside part of earth. Of course the Bungie lore team would have to spice of the description a bit.
The targets would all be some higher level of a major or ultra, maybe even give them a different colored life bar to indicate that. As far as difficulty I'm usually a solo player so I would be biased in saying I would want you to be able to solo the targets but I feel that "soloing" them should be incredibly difficult encouraging fireteams of 3 to tackle these targets. How and when these target missions are dispensed are again dealers choice. You could do daily targets and weekly targets. On top of that you could have static targets on a climbing scale you must defeat in order.
As far as rewards our lovely in town vendor for these missions would have her own reputation that would only increase when you killed targets. I say her because I would prefer this vendor be a hot blonde in a very revealing bikini, but that is beside the point. Your rep would allow you to buy exclusive legendaries in exchange for vanguard marks or even glimmer, not crucible marks because this is a PvE thing (Which we need more of BTW). Also I would be cool to add a new currency you get from killing targets in very limited amounts like 1 Xcurrency per kill. You could use Xcurrency to purchase exotics from our lovely blonde vendor once you accumulated enough. It would have to be slow grind though since we already have Xur offering an exotic once a week. However this would give players the opportunity to EARN their exotics, granted over a very long period of time. I mean look at the reception of the Iron Banner allowing players to earn their boots and gloves.
Also, one last thing it would be neat of certain targets had a chance to drop items unique to them. it would still be RNG but ONLY they could drop it, like the hard raid, atheon and the mythoclast.
TL;DR: New vendor supplying new missions to take out specific high level targets.
New vendor has its own rep and new currency.
You must search out the target yourself without help from the HUD.
